- Began playing tennis at age 10 by hitting against a wall with plastic racket and soft balls
- Father, Willibald, is retired and used to work for a train company; mother, Marianne; has one older brother, Erwin and one older sister Ingeborg
- Enjoys alpine skiing, cars and motorbikes and says if he wasn't a tennis player he would be a skier (admires Austrian skiing stars)
- Often skis in states of Lower Austria and Salzburger Land in Austria when back home…Interested in clothing and fashion
- Followed Andre Agassi while growing up
- Considers clay his favorite surface and forehand favorite shot…Fitness trainer is Manfred Kogler and coached by Roland Berger (since 2000).
