TENNIS, EVERYONE?! USTA Florida Promotes Programs

Posted on April 23, 2008

Jacksonville, Fla., April 22, 2008 -- The USTA Florida develops programs that offer a life-long continuum of tennis programs designed for everyone including children, teens, adults and seniors.

One of 17 not-for-profit sections of United States Tennis Association, USTA Florida currently has approximately 50,000 members throughout Florida participating in wide variety of programs available at local recreation centers, public parks, schools, colleges and private clubs. Through these opportunities, members can discover tennis, "play to learn" the game, play in an organized team and compete in tournaments. Tennis camps and Recreational Coach Workshops are also available to develop tennis coaches, champions, programs, or simply a love of the game.

"USTA Florida tennis programs will enrich anyone's life with a rewarding social and physical activity for young and old" said Trina Singian of the USTA Florida. "All you have to do is take the first step by finding the most suitable entry point into tennis for you."

Extensive information including local USTA Florida contacts is available online at www.ustaflorida.com. The adjacent chart provides an overall breakdown of the different programs.

Youth can get started in tennis through either the USTA Schools Tennis Program or QuickStart Tennis.  All are designed to start or support a tennis program that introduces students to the game.

USTA Jr. Team Tennis, the USTA National Junior Tennis League and USTA Junior Competitive Tennis offer children and teenagers the opportunity to participate in various leagues and tournaments statewide, with possible advancement to national competition.

College students that have been active in tennis and are not playing on their college varsity tennis team can keep tennis a part of their college experience with the USTA Tennis on Campus program.

Schools without tennis programs can work with USTA Florida to develop and nurture one. USTA Florida has training programs and recreational coach workshops for the recreational tennis instructor, physical education teacher, tennis coach or tennis program volunteer to facilitate team play.

There are numerous programs for adults and active seniors depending on their skill level. Based on their playing levels the USTA offers the following programs: Adult Team Tennis and League Tennis (Adult Division, Mixed Division, Senior Division, Super Senior Division, Super 70's Division, Mixed Senior Division and the BMW Combo Doubles). They also offer sanctioned tournaments, The Florida Cup, NTRP Tournaments and USTA Intersectionals. For active seniors looking for an easy transition back into tennis they have the Welcome Back to Tennis program available.

The USTA Florida offers several programs for special needs tennis players including USTA Adaptive Tennis and USTA Wheelchair Tennis.
