Florida's Blake Knocks Federer Out of Beijing Olympics

Posted on August 14, 2008

Florida's James Blake ousted world No. 1 Roger Federer from the Beijing Olympics on Thursday, dispatching of the lackluster former world-beater 6-4, 7-6(2).

Federer had a difficult time finding his game after a long rain delay. Federer served at 4-5 in the first when Blake broke him for the set, then the American ran out to a 3-0 lead early in the second.

Blake entered the meeting with an 0-8 career head-to-head against the Swiss.

"I find it a little bit ridiculous that we're playing maybe 11 matches in seven days, to be honest," Federer said before the match, referring to both singles and doubles. "I know it rained the first day. But, quite honestly, I don't understand why we don't play such a big tournament over 10 days maybe."
