Florida's Gladstone Recognized by U.S. Olympic Committee for Tennis

Rita Gladstone of Port Orange was named USOC Volunteer Coach of the Year for Tennis by the United States Olympic Committee. Gladstone received the honor along with three other national tennis coaches.

The USTA Florida area league coordinator for Volusia County, Gladstone in 2008 had more than 550 kids participating in Junior Team Tennis leagues she coordinated, and gave lessons to over 100 new tennis players in 2008 utilizing the USTA QuickStart program. She also partners with local schools to provide free after-school programs for both students and teachers, and acts as a guest teacher for phys. ed. classes in her area.

Also receiving USOC awards were University of Georgia men's coach Manuel Diaz; Frank Salazar of Chevy Chase, named USOC Developmental Coach of the Year for Tennis; and the USTA nominated Anne Smith, Ph.D., of Dallas for the "Doc" Counsilman Science Award for her contributions in the areas of sports psychology and mental training...
