USTA Florida Region 2 News: Gainesville Complex Nears Completion

Posted on February 25, 2009

In Gainesville the target date remains March 2009 for completion of the Jonesville Park Tennis Center, a public 14-hydro claycourt complex including a large "show" court and pro shop.

"After five very long years, our dream of a large public claycourt facility will soon be a reality," said Gainesville Area Community Tennis Association President Christine Shurtleff. "We are just thrilled."

Players can follow the progress of the facility or get more information at www.JonesvilleTennis.com. Organizers are looking forward to not just expanding leagues and play in Gainesville, but also hosting a USTA Adult Regional Championship.

The MaliVai Washington Kids Foundation, taking advantage of its new nine-court Youth Tennis & Education Complex in inner-city Jacksonville, is moving in all directions in February and March. The center is offering free beginner tennis lessons on Saturdays in February, and in March will host the U.S. Navy vs. Jacksonville University men's tennis match on the 18th, open to the public.
