USTA Florida Region 4 News: Epstein Represents Central Florida with Class Posted on February 27, 2009
By Susie Rahimitabar Maci Epstein of Windermere won the national 16-and-under division of the Copper Bowl in Arizona in January, beating No. 4 seed Srinidhi Raghavan of California in the final.
Maci trains with Scott Boruszewski, both privately and at the Maxsy-Mum Tennis Academy (along with other top area coaches) at Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando. Several players from the academy joined Maci and coach Boruszewski in Arizona for the USTA National Winter Championships in Scottsdale, and the Copper Bowl in Tucson.
"From day one, the group and I were focused on one task -- to take advantage of a great opportunity that was set before us," Boruszewski said.
Maci was the only one of the five players to qualify for the Winter Super National and overcame a back injury en route to her victory. With less than stellar results at the Winter National, including losing her first round match, Maci considered withdrawing from the Copper Bowl due to her injury.
