Pro Beach Tennis Season Kicks Off in Florida

Beach Tennis USA, the organization responsible for launching the sport of beach tennis in North America, will hold the first event of its 2009 National Tour with the Tampa Bay Open, March 21-22, at 10 Pier 60 Drive in Clearwater, Florida.

The weekend-long event will showcase the top-ranked beach tennis teams from around the country, with the Men's and Women's Pro Division finals matches set to take place on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The event will also feature amateur competition, which will be held on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Newcomers to the sport of beach tennis will be able to learn alongside some of Beach Tennis USA's biggest stars. One junior player will also qualify to be "Fuzzy the Mascot" during the pro tournament.

Beach Tennis Tampa Bay, official licensee of Beach Tennis USA, also announced the launch of a new beach tennis academy servicing the Tampa Bay metropolitan area. The Beach Tennis Tampa Bay Academy, run by Mike Edison and Brett Johnson, also known as Team Rhino, will offer a variety of clinics, lessons, camps, and leagues for all ages and skill levels. The Beach Tennis Tampa Bay Academy is currently located at Countryside Country Club.
