Roddick Says Reality Show Not a Done Deal Posted on November 12, 2003
Amid the swirl of activity surrounding Andy Roddick, including hosting Saturday Night Live, modeling in fashion shows and entertaining the media and fans at the Tennis Masters Cup this week in Houston, some of the spin has apparently spun out of the American's control.
A variety of media sources have reported that Roddick will star in a "reality show" to be filmed next year, but this week the 21-year-old says he was quoted out of context on the subject, and the project is not a "go."
"First of all, it's definitely not anything concrete," said Roddick at the Masters Cup in Houston on Sunday. "There were some quotes used that I hadn't really given permission to use. To be honest, I don't know a lot about it. It's definitely not something that is gonna happen -- it's kind of taken on its own entity. To be honest, I read about it in newspapers, and that's where I get my information."
While it has been reported that the project is being pitched to the major networks by "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" producer Craig H. Shepherd, Roddick denies signing off on the deal. Tentatively titled "The Tour," the show was reportedly to be broadcast on ESPN.
"I am totally amped for this show," Roddick reportedly told the Associated Press last week. "I'm just this guy who happens to play tennis, but my life has become this circus. It's a wild ride, and I've given 'The Tour' producers total access...except my bedroom -- sorry, I have to draw the line somewhere!"
Now Roddick has a different story.
"It's not a go, no," added Roddick on Sunday. "I think maybe someone got a hold of something and went with it. You know, I definitely never, you know, talked about it before, like it was a done deal."
