FOREST HILLS, NY, USA -- After Meghann Shaughnessy, Anna Smashnova and Maria Elena Camerin qualified for the semifinals of the Forest Hills Sony Ericsson WTA Tour Tennis Classic, heavy rain showers ended the last quarterfinal between Lourdes Dominguez Lino and Sania Mirza. The match stopped Thursday when Dominguez Lino led 4-3 in the first set.

So far, no seeded players are part of Friday's semifinal line-up at the US Open warm-up event. No.1 seed Lucie Safarova, No.2 Sofia Arvidsson and No.3 Sybille Bammer were knocked out in the first round. No.4 Dominguez Lino will continue her quarterfinal Friday morning.

The first player to secure a semifinal spot was Camerin. The Italian beat Severine Bremond, 63 64, to reach her first Tour semifinal of the season. Her opponent, Smashnova, beat Martina Sucha, 61 16 61.

Camerin and Smashnova have played each other two years ago at Rome and the Israeli veteran won in straight sets. Smashnova just captured her 12th career Tour singles title at Budapest last month and improved her Tour singles finals record to 12-0.

Shaughnessy defeated Elena Vesnina, 62 75, and will play either Mirza or Dominguez Lino in her second semifinal of the season. Earlier this year, the American collected her 11th Top 10 win over Justine Henin-Hardenne at Miami and won her fourth Tour singles title at Rabat.
