Second-seed Mario "Baby Goran" Ancic was left out of Saturday's semifinal party in Mumbai after being stunned 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 by Austrian
Stefan Koubek.
Koubek converted three of eight break point opportunities against the Croat, and the win moves him into his second semifinal of the season following a Zagreb runner-up effort in February.
Joining Koubek in the semifinals are the remaining of the top four seeds.
Fourth seed
Dmitry Tursunov rallied from a set down to defeat British qualifier
James Auckland 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to advanced to his third ATP hardcourt semifinal of the year. Tursunov was the Davis Cup hero this past Sunday when he defeated
Andy Roddick 17-15 in the fifth set to clinch Russia's semifinal Davis Cup victory over the USA.
Awaiting Tursunov is top seed
Tommy Robredo, who posted a 6-2, 7-6(1) win over
Ramon Delgado.
And third-seeded Czech
Tomas Berdych defeated sixth seed
Bjorn Phau 6-3, 7-5 to reach the semifinals. Berdych is at a career-high No. 13 in the ATP Rankings and could push towards the Top 10 by winning the title.
