Ivanisevic v Haarhuis in Blackrock Masters FinalPosted on December 10, 2006 Haarhuis Beats Rios, v Ivanisevic in Senior Masters FinalGoran Ivanisevic powered his way into the final of the Blackrock Masters senior event Saturday, dropping ace after ace on Frenchman Cedric Pioline in a 6-4, 7-6 victory to set up a championship meeting against Paul Haarhuis. "My advice to Haarhuis would be to wear a helmet," said Pioline, who watched five aces go by in the second-set tiebreak alone. Ivanisevic said it is tough to play a bad match at the awe-inspiring Royal Albert Hall. "I surprised myself with how well I played, but it's tough to play bad in this arena," Ivanisevic said. "It's just so relaxing and beautiful that you cannot play bad. On this particular court I could give a good match to anyone in the world except Roger Federer. I could beat a lot of guys on the tour." Haarhuis revealed world senior No. 1 Marcelo Rio's vulnerability on fast indoor carpet, beating the Chilean 6-7(4), 6-4, 10-5. "No one likes to lose twice in a row," Rios said of losing before the final in his second tournament in a row after winning every other tournament he participated in this season. "I'm disappointed. It was a quick court -- good for his game, but I'm still disappointed." |
