WEEKEND WRAP:
The Artois Championships London, England
Singles Final: (2) Andy Roddick (USA) d. Nicolas Mahut (FRA) 4-6, 7-6(7), 7-6(2)
Doubles Final: (4) Knowles/Nestor (BAH/CAN) d. (1) Bryan/Bryan (USA) 7-6(4), 7-5
Mahut cuts short a masterful performance by choking a forehand sitter on match point, handing Roddick his fourth Queen's Club title. "I was one point away to put my name on the trophy," Mahut said. "Like I said yesterday, it's one of the greatest tournaments of the tour. You know, I had match point. It's really hard now. It was just an easy passing shot like I hit a thousand passing like that. But, you know, it's easier when you practice. When you have to make it to win the tournament, it's another shot." The Bahamiam/Canadian team win another title, making their planned break-up after Wimbledon a little tougher.
Gerry Weber Open Halle, Germany
Singles Final: (4) Tomas Berdych (CZE) d (8) Marcos Baghdatis (CYP) 7-5, 6-4
Doubles Final: (3) Aspelin/J.Knowle (SWE/AUT) d. (2) Santoro/Zimonjic (FRA/SRB) 6-4, 7-6(5)
Berdych drops just two points on his first serve in the final after last year finishing runner-up to Roger Federer. "It's fantastic," said Berdych after winning his third career title. "It's the second year in the final so to finish the champion this time is great. Two years ago I was saying I didn't like grass too much, so to be the champion after a tough tournament is very nice."
DFS Classic Birmingham, Great Britain
Singles Final: (2) Jelena Jankovic (SRB) d. (1) Maria Sharapova (RUS) 4-6, 6-3, 7-5
Doubles Final: (2) Chan/Chuang (TPE) d. T.Sun/Tu (CHN/USA) 7-6(3), 6-3
Jankovic wins her fourth tour singles title of the year, tying Justine Henin. Sharapova falls to 0-2 in finals this year. The final was a rematch of the 2005 DFS Classic championship which Sharapova won in three sets. "I just tried to stay positive out there and that's what helped me win the match," Jankovic said. "I'm so happy this is my first title on grass. My fourth one this year, and now I have titles on three different surfaces -- hard, grass and clay -- so it's a good thing for me."
Barcelona KIA Barcelona, Spain
Singles Final: (6) Meghann Shaughnessy (USA) d. Edina Gallovits (ROU) 6-3, 6-2
Doubles Final: Llagostera Vives/Parra Santonja (ESP) d. (2) Dominguez Lino/Pennetta (ESP/ITA) 7-6(3), 2-6, 12-10
Shaughnessy collects her sixth career singles title, and first since 2006 Forest Hills, improving to 6-4 lifetime in tour singles finals. Gallovits had never before reached the quarterfinals at a tour singles stop.

But they don't give the impression of knowing a whole lot about the world beyond the locker rooms. Peter Fleming, a regular guest this week, offers a welcome change of perspective, as does his former doubles partner John McEnroe, who has made frequent appearances on the BBC over the past few years. Yet it's still far from being enough. One hesitates to use the word 'diversity' within earshot of a BBC employee, lest they respond by jumping into a taxi, taking it to Brixton, and offering a presenter's contract to the first black kid whose slang they could not understand. But that's what we need all the same -- a more diverse group of presenters, with a wider range of backgrounds."...Xavier Malisse, Gaston Gaudio and Jurgen Melzer have pulled from Wimbledon...After losing early at Queen's, Rafael Nadal says he needs to throw some back with the boys and relax before Wimbledon: "I need to disconnect, play some golf, watch a little bit [of soccer], have some fun with the friends.
