Former world No. 1
Lindsay Davenport is back on tour this week at the Bell Challenge in
Quebec City, Canada, where the unseeded American will open against No. 7-seeded German
Angelique Kerber.
Czech
Nicole Vaidisova is the top seed at the event that does not feature a Top 10-ranked player on the WTA Tour Rankings. The Bell Challenge is the lone event on tour this week, a week before the year-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in
Madrid.
This will be the third and final event of the year for Davenport, who came out of retirement in September at
Bali where she captured the title. The following week at
Beijing she was beaten in the semifinals by Serb
Jelena Jankovic.
Also seeded are Russians
Vera Zvonareva and
Olga Poutchkova, the Ukraine's
Julia Vakulenko, American
Meilen Tu, Belarus'
Olga Govortsova, and France's Aliza Cornet.
In last year's final Poutchkova lost 6-0, 6-0 to
Marion Bartoli.
