After the top half of the Sony Ericsson Open Miami draw is completed Monday, the field will be reduced down to 16 players as the third round at the second Tennis Masters Series event of the year resumes.

Leading the way on Monday’s schedule is World No. 1 and 2005-06 Sony Ericsson Open champion Roger Federer along with No. 4 Nikolay Davydenko, and No. 6/2004 winner Andy Roddick. Other Top 16 seeds in the third round are No. 11 Mikhail Youzhny and No. 12 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Roger Federer takes a 14-match winning streak against Swedes into the third round against Robin Soderling. During that streak, Soderling has been a victim four times. The last time Federer lost to a Swedish player was against Thomas Enqvist in March 2002 in the third round of Indian Wells.

Czech Republic native Ivo Minar is the lone qualifier remaining in the tournament (of 12 at the beginning). Minar takes on No. 6 Andy Roddick in the third round on Monday.

No. 12 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga plays Julien Benneteau in an all-French third round match on Monday. Tsonga won the last ATP level meeting in the first round at Wimbledon in June 2007. In their first meeting at the Cherbourg (France) Challenger in 2003, Benneteau prevailed in three sets.

Of the five unseeded players in third round action on Sunday, only Dmitry Tursunov advanced into the fourth round with his three-sets win over No. 32 Feliciano Lopez. On Monday, there are nine unseeded players in action.

On tap for Tuesday are Rafael Nadal, James Blake and Guillermo Canas. (ATP Digital Services)
