Tennis-X Funk/Trunk: Sharapova Down, FOX Sports Way Down

Posted on March 15, 2009

Who's Got the Funk...

1. Israel Davis Cup
Sela, Ran and Co. ignore the protesters to win two matches on Sunday and upset the Swedes on their home turf.

2. Czech Davis Cup
Stepnaek and Berdych shock Gasquet and the ever-underachieving French.

3. Marion BARTOLI
Ends 3-year title drought at little Monterrey Open in Mexico, and looking slimmed-down and in fighting shape.

4. U.S. Davis Cup
Andy Roddick and the Bryan brothers collect wins in the D-Cup victory over Switzerland, happy that Roger Federer stayed home.

5. Chris GUCCIONE
"Penthouse," "The Gooch," whatever you want to call him, the No. 2-tier Aussie has his day, mopping up after Hewitt fell in Davis Cup.

...Who's in the Trunk

5. Lleyton HEWITT
2009 comeback has been slow, now a big Davis Cup loss, doesn't bode well.

4. Swiss Davis Cup
With Roger on board, this could have been the year to break the 79-year drought.

3. Maria SHARAPOVA
Will play only doubles at Indian Wells as shoulder is still dodgy, hasn't played singles yet this year.

2. John LLOYD
Brit Davis Cup captain shuns Greg Rusedski then loses in ZONAL COMPETITION. Isn't Brit tennis a little talent challeneged to play the 'We're just going to develop our youngsters' card?

1. U.S. TENNIS FANS
Get ready for more spotty/disappearing horrible FOX Sports regional coverage of Indian Wells and Miami. But that's OK, the ATP wants you to pay to watch it on the internet anyway!
