Robredo, Wawrinka Advance; ATP Masters Monte Carlo Monday Schedule

No. 11 seed Tommy Robredo made a strong start on the opening day at the Masters Monte Carlo on Sunday, rolling past German Rainer Schuettler 6-1, 6-4 to move into the second round.

Robredo will next meet either France's Jeremy Chardy or Argentina's Juan Monaco.

Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka was another winner, heading toward a possible meeting with countryman Roger Federer, defeating Viktor Troicki of Serbia 6-2, 6-3. Wawrinka will have a second-round meeting with either Russian Igor Andreev or Martin Vassallo Arguello of Argentina.

Other winners Sunday were German Philipp Kohlschreiber beating Ernests Gulbis of Latvia 6-1, 6-3, and Italian Simone Bolelli beating Robin Soderling 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

The qualifying was also completed on Sunday, with Oscar Hernandez, Alberto Martin, Andreas Beck, Nicolas Lapentti, Kristof Vliegen, Fabio Fognini and Flavio Cipolla all earning place in the main draw.

Rafael Nadal is going for his fifth title in Monte Carlo, defeating Federer in the last three finals.
