Russian No. 5 seed
Vera Dushevina captured the title on Sunday at the
Istanbul Cup, rolling over No. 8 seed
Lucie Hradecka 6-0, 6-1.
"Before I came to Istanbul, I lost early in
Portoroz, and I wasn't very excited about playing again this week," Dushevina said. "I was upset, and I didn't come here thinking I could win. It was a tough tournament with a lot of top players, so I'm very happy I was able to win the title, especially after playing three finals."
It was the first title for the Russian after three runner-up finishes at
Eastbourne in 2005 and
Stockholm in 2007 and 2008.
Hradecka is now 0-3 in tour singles finals.
"I slept well today, until 1 p.m., but maybe it wasn't enough because I still feel tired," said Hredecka, who won the doubles final. "Vera played very well today though. She didn't make any mistakes. Before the tournament, if somebody came and told me I'd play the final of singles and win the doubles, I'd have said they were joking. I'm very happy with my week."
