by Staff
The final major of the 2008 tennis season is upon and the US Open has never been so wide open in both the men’s and women’s field. For the first time in forever, Roger Federer will enter a non-clay Grand Slam not as the favorite, which is now assumed by new No. 1 and recent Olympic gold medalist Rafael Nadal.

The 22-year-old Spaniard is as of Saturday +145 in some books to win the US Open title, while Federer is second at +300. That means if you put $100 on Nadal you will win $45 if he does capture his third Slam of the year.
2007 finalist Novak Djokovic is third at +371 while Andy Murray is fourth at +1444 (put $100 on Murray and if he wins you also win - $1344).
The red-hot Juan Martin Del Potro is fifth at +3988, Andy Roddick sixth at +6468, No. 7 is Richard Gasquet at +11900 and No. 8 goes to James Blake at +11997 (that’s right, $100 on Blake wins you close to 12K if James comes through!).
Serena and Venus Williams are the one/two women’s US Open favorites at +355 and +510, respectively. Dinara Safina is next at +625 followed by Serbs Ana Ivanovic at +649 and Jelena Jankovic at +1049.
