Jennifer Capriati Hospitalized After Accidental OD

by Tom Gainey

A breaking story out of Florida this morning has three-time Grand Slam champion Jennifer Capriati in the hospital after a possible drug overdose.

According to the story and TMZ, Capriati was rushed to a South Florida hospital after accidentally overdosing on prescription medication.

“Jen is recovering fully and speedily,” said Capriati spokesman Laci Wickline.

Capriati, a winner of 14 career WTA titles including three Grand Slams at the 2001-2002 Australian Open and 2001 French Open, has had her share of off-court grievances in the past.

In 1993, Capriati was busted for shoplifting. A year later she was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Capriati has been off the tennis tour since 2004.

I don’t think Capriati ever officially retired, did she? I believe she kept wanting to come back, but was continually jinxed by injury. Hard, not to be able to do what you do best.
