Maybe the most interesting player of the 2011 season is Juan Martin Del Potro. The former US Open champ missed most of last year but he says he’s now full recovered from wrist injury as he opens up play in Sydney this week for the Medibank.

Before the start of the tournament Del Potro boarded a sailboat for a tour of the beautiful Sydney Harbour. The video is below.

Del Potro will begin his season against Feliciano Lopez in the first round of Sydney. Lopez has won three straight over Juan Martin so it’s a tough draw.

He says he missed “everything” while he was away from pro tennis. Del Potro adds, “I train very hard for two months. I have very good goals for this year.”

Good luck Delpo!

jane Says:

Welcome back to JMDP.

madmax Says:

Has JMDP ‘BEEFED UP?’ or is it me?

dunbar Says:

madmax – you are certainly right. Hope it’s muscle and not just tons of christmas pud etc. Question is: does he want extra weight (even more power) when it might compromise his movement?
First thing that struck me in picci on ATP site was his hands – they seemed absolutely enormous! Now that might be a good thing, in terms of his wrists, I wonder.

jane Says:

Yeah, madmax, he does look wider, less lean, to me. Good point about movement dunbar, maybe that will be an issue. But after an injury it’s important to feel strong also. So many of us are anxious to see how JMDP returns.

madmax Says:

dunbar, Jane, seems the ‘beefing up’ has not done delpo any harm after winning his first title – close though it may have been.
