Watch Andy Roddick Destroy His Tennis Racquet [Video]
by Tom Gainey

On a very memorable, historic Monday in America, Andy Roddick didn’t do his country proud yesterday in Madrid. Roddick, who was playing his first match on the clay this season, was upset by Italian qualifier Flavio Cipolla 64 67(7) 63 at the Mutua Madrilena Tennis Masters.

Roddick took some of the frustration from his poor play by cursing several times during the match and in this video you can watch Andy take it out on his Babolat racquet. And the racquet never had a chance.

“That was a pretty decent effort,” TV commentator Jason Goodall rightly pointed out. “If you are going to do it (smash your racquet), you might as well do it properly.” Which Roddick did.

Chair umpire Mohammed Layani issued Roddick a warning for smashing the racquet. Layani later gave Roddick another warning for verbal abuse.

Roddick has a week to cool down his next clay event in Rome next Monday.
