Serena Williams Withdraws from Cincinnati… To Attend Kim Kardashian’s Wedding?
by Tom Gainey | August 17th, 2011, 1:56 pm

In a mild surprise, the Cincinnati twitter account is reporting that Serena Williams has withdrawn from her match this afternoon with Samantha Stosur becuase of a right toe injury.

“#cincytennis news: @serenawilliams has withdrawn from the Western & Southern Open due to a right toe injury. She was to play Stosur today.” the account tweeted.

Serena Williams has won titles in Stanford and Toronto and had won 12 straight matches after beating Lucie Hradecka yesterday.

After missing a year, Serena’s played a lot of tennis this last month and would likely be better served with rest.

And here are some quotes from Serena’s presser which just ran on the Tennis Channel:

“It’s just more of an aggravation,” Serena said of her toe which she felt yesterday in her win.

“I don’t think it’s a good time for me to take big a chance. I don’t think that would be smart.”

“I’m definitely disappointed but at the same time I have a lot to look forward to. If anything this might be a blessing in disguise that I might get more rest and prepare for the rest of the year.”

“I woke up this morning not feeling excellent and i went to the gym to see how it felt before i hit practice and it definitely didn’t sit well and there’s a little swelling.”

Her withdrawal, she said, will allow her to attend friend Kim Kardashian’s wedding this weekend. “Now that I have time I probably will. I hadn’t thought about it.”

She “hadn’t thought about it”? Hmm.

4 Comments for Serena Williams Withdraws from Cincinnati… To Attend Kim Kardashian’s Wedding?

Humble Rafa Says:

Kim Kardishian and Serena Willams are good role models….for each other…the rest of the world wonders can they be more slutty.

RZ Says:

Why can’t tennis ever be a reality-tv free zone? We don’t need mentions on these fake celebrities. The tennis itself is interesting enough.

BT Says:

I bet Stosur is cheering!

D H Says:

Serena did not broach this subject, the press did. She simply said she hadn’t thought about it. Why isn’t that sufficient for you guys. And the title of the article suggests that Serena withdrew to attend a celebrity wedding. How skewed is that? And what’s with the “Hmm” at the end of the article, basically saying that Serena is lying. What ever happened to reporting the news instead of creating ill-will and spewing lies and inuendoes? This writer need to turn in his pen and try “shock jock”. This is not journalism. Keep your personal biases to yourself and report what is said. Enough of this “image making” by “wannabe” journalists.
