Notes: A former playground for former No. 1s, this year the L.A. event hits rock bottom, headlined by No. 47-ranked Frenchman Benoit Paire, with no stars available due to the Olympics and injuries…”The International Tennis Federation changed the entry procedure for the London Olympics, allowing four players from each country to participate instead of three, said Bob Kramer, tournament director. “For the smaller events being held around the Olympics, this took quite a few more players off the board.”…Wildcards went to Baker, Jack Sock and Steve Johnson…No returning champ Ernests Gulbis, or last year’s runner-up Mardy Fish…Querrey (2010-09) is the lone returning champ in the field.

LA is usually such a good event in the ATP USO series but I guess the Olympics changes everything. Oh well. I want Sam, Benoit or Blake to win it.

In Austria will cheer for Gulbis. Come to think of it, didn’t he win in LA last year? I wonder why he is not playing there again.

LOL @ WTA Baku. When two of your seeded players are ranked outside the top 100 and your cut off is ranked 200 you might as well be running a challenger.

If Querrey loses interest by mid-week, I like the X-Man’s chances in LA…

Will be interesting to see which tourney on either side of the pond will have a strong field pre US Open – probably the Canadian.
