This week:

2013 World Group Semifinals

Canada at Serbia
Venue: Belgrade Arena, Belgrade (indoor clay)

Can Canucks Milos Raonic and Vasil “Popsicle” Pospisil put up a challenge on red clay in Serbia against Novak Djokovic and Janko Tipsarevic? Will Djokovic play doubles? Can Canadian doubles specialist Daniel Nestor drive Canada to a must-win doubles point?

Argentina at Czech Republic
Venue: O2 Arena, Prague (indoor hard)

Some Czech singles combo of Tomas Berdych, Lukas Rosol and Radek “The Worm” Stepanek should be too much on the hardcourt for the likes of a weak Argentine team comprised of Juan Monaco, Carlos Berlocq and Horacio Zeballos.

CHALLENGE BELL PRESENTED BY BANQUE NATIONALE
Quebec City, Canada; Surface: indoor carpet

Seeds: Kirsten Flipkens, Kristina Mladenovic, Lucie Safarova, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Eugenie Bouchard, Marina Erakovic, Lauren Davis, Caroline Garcia

Floaters: (WC) Aleksandra Wozniak, Camila Giorgi

Notes: One Top 30 player in Flipkens, and the No. 75 Garcia gets seeded…Tough starts for (8) Garcia against homecountry favorite Woz, and (7) Davis against Giorgi who is coming off a good US Open run…Former champs in the field are Flipkens (2012), Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (2011), and Tamira Paszek (2010).

TASHKENT OPEN 2013
Tashkent, Uzbekistan; Surface: outdoor hard

Seeds: Bojana Jovanovski, Lesia Tsurenko, Yvonne Meusburger, Donna Vekic, Alexandra Cadantu, Irina-Camelia Begu, Galina Voskoboeva, Yaroslava Shvedova

Floaters: none

Notes: Jovanovski entered late and had to play the qualies, then qualified, and due to her ranking was then given the top seeding…Voskoboeva, ranked No. 77, is the No. 7 seed — spooky!…No Top 50 players in the field, why isn’t this a $100K lower-tier event?…Pulling from the event were Hsieh Su-wei, Karin Knapp and Urszula Radwanska…Former champs in the field are Begu (2012) and Krajicek (2005).
