Former World No. 1 Victoria Azarenka was suffering from food poisoning during her loss today to Ekatarina Makarova, her publicist curiously confirmed after the match.

Azarenka then spoke about after in the press.

“I don’t really want to talk about it,” said Azarenka who’s had a history of illnesses and injuries. “I just, you know, want to give credit to my opponent. She played really well today. Am I disappointed? Yes, I’m disappointed. But I feel like I tried my best with whatever I had. But, you know, I just want to wish her good luck. That’s it. I’m out of the tournament.”

According to ESPN, Azarenka ate some bad sushi on Monday and was unable to practice on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old Azarenka had been to the finals at the US Open the last two years losing to Serena Williams.

“Very disappointing,” she said of the setback. “It’s not about that you have been two times in the final before that’s going to make it better. It just is what it is today. It’s not the end of the world. It’s something I can take positive from this tournament.

“Two months ago I didn’t even think that I was going to be able to play today. But, you know, trying to ask and put some kind of pressure like that with those questions I think is no point.”

Dear Vika,

Take Guinea pigs with you. I take Uncle Toni. He eats first, 1 hour later, Humble shows up. If Uncle Toni is fine, the food is fine.

Anybody stupid enough to eat Sushi before a Tennis match … well, that’s all I’m saying.

Plus: Didn’t anyone ever tell you that the one day of the week you don’t eat Sushi is a Monday. This is the crap left over from the previous week.

Jack Lewis Says:

Apparently there’s quite a few stupid players out there:
