Laundry mix-ups happen especially when you travel as much as pro tennis players. Earlier Saturday at the Australian Open, Maria Sharapova was asked if she had any bizarre circumstances with her laundry. And usually-guarded Sharapova did, revealing it took place minutes before the presser.

“I actually just returned a pair of underwear that wasn’t mine, like 45 minutes ago,” Sharapova told the press. “Funny you ask that. I don’t know if you were like checking out the laundry room situation, but it really happened.

“It was a female pair of underwear, not male. It was leopard. I’m like, That’s not mine.”

So whose was it?

Sharapova, the 2008 champion, made the final in Australia a year ago, playing close with Serena Williams. But this year she enters having just withdrawn from Brisbane with a forearm injury. The news, though, is she’s feeling good.

“I feel really good,” Sharapova said. “Got to Melbourne earlier than I wanted to. But it gave me a chance to practice here this week. Had great days on a lot of the courts. Yeah, feeling really good.”

Sharapova opens play on Monday against youngster Nao Hibino of Japan.
