Following his second straight title in Doha where he beat rival Andy Murray in three sets, Novak Djokovic talked about his use of the hyperbaric chamber, or egg, to help improve his performance and his recovery. He admitted, he still uses them so he explained why.

“We breathe in 20% normally, and under pressurized conditions you breathe in 100% oxygen, again, which of course does many different beneficial things for your body, cells, muscles,” Djokovic said.

“I don’t unfortunately have access to it everywhere I go, but I try to use it wherever I can, this opportunity to use the cryotherapy, the hyperbaric chambers. Especially hyperbaric chamber is very good. I’ve seen many top players using it as well. So I’m looking forward to Australia actually.”

Djokovic first started using the eggs during the 2011 US Open. And it sounds like he’ll have one ready to go in Melbourne!

71 Comments for Novak Djokovic Can’t Wait To Get Back Into His Hyperbaric Chamber Egg!

Humble Rafa Says:

It is like using steroid and must be illegal. But hey this is tennis, everything goes.

Old School Hitter Says:

It’s technology not illicit. Research it.

Danica Says:

It’s like spending a few days at high altitudes. Maybe the ice baths should be considered illegal too?

Bryan bros are using it. Bethanie Mattek Sands is using it. LeBron James is using it. Many top athletes do.

Giles Says:

Hahaha. He finally makes the admission that he is using the EGG. Faker all the way!

Chuck Says:

Anyone that considered breathing oxygen has an illegal substance doesn’t know much. The Russians and the Chinese use HBOT for multiple conditions and have used it for over 50 years. Suggest the person above that suggested breathing oxygen in a HBOT chamber could be like a steroid do his research. Just on youtube alone there are thousands of testimonials for a multiple of conditions. Many professional athletes own their own chambers to recover from their professional activity.

Chrisford1 Says:

No problem at all with players in many different sorts of sport using the latest sports medicine – with one caveat. It should be available to all in competition rather than a small wealthy few.
It’s not just hyperbaric chambers – it’s Rafa’s exotic platelet reinfusion therapy, Andy’s personal dietician and sushi chef of a couple years back, Roger’s 30 person retinue plus him traveling on a private jet to help ease his life on Tour. Sports psychologists. Access to courts year round.

Willow Says:

Didnt one of the former greats once say ” that the hyberbaric chamber might not be illegal in the sport, but at the same time not really fair either ” ? ….

Humble Rafa Says:

Bryan bros are using it. Bethanie Mattek Sands is using it. LeBron James is using it.

Ms. Bethany aka Bad Fashion Lady almost got caught for doping. Her doctor was is a wierdo who is into writing prescriptions for performance enhancing drugs.

Big Ego is plays in the NBA where doping rules are relaxed and he can get away with anything.

Willow Says:

Sorry shouldve said not really in the spirit of the sport ….

Wog Boy Says:

If something is legal than it is not illegal, which part is hard to understand? Anybody can use it if they think they are going to win 12 GS and have positive h2h against two best players in the history of the game.

CF1 mentioned some medical procedures that are borderline legal and only rich can afford them, but they are officially legal, therefore not illegal.

Funny CF1 mentioned Roger’s traveling with private jet, I think he needs it considering how big his team is, plus family, nannies etc. He even takes his own stringer with him, so nobody really knows how he strings his racquets, they interviewed stringer in Perth and he said that stringed just about everybody’s racquets (Rafa, Nole, Andy…)except Roger’s since he is not allowing anybody but his stringer to touch his racquets.

jane Says:

the spanish davis cup team have all used a hyperbaric chamber, simultaneously in fact. :)

http://www.10sballs.com/2011/12/03/spanish-davis-cup-team-using-medical-device-to-aid-their-breathing/

also andy murray tried the egg but didn’t feel it worked for him. (cf wall street journal article)

it’s not just novak, but he’s open about it and he’s focused on. others have used it – or similar – and still use it. including the bryan bros. mike said it helps “a little” with recovery.

so it’s not some miracle thing. it’s like ice baths, vacusport, sand other new tech/therapy that help athletes recover after matches.

it’s not as intense as stem cells and plasma treatments, which have been used to treat/heal injuries by some players.

Wog Boy Says:

^^^ and Michael Phelps sleeps in one.

BBB Says:

“He admitted, he still uses them so he explained why.”

Er…. it’s not an “admission.” It’s a statement. He hasn’t done anything wrong, so he’s not admitting anything.

I don’t understand the assumption that this is cheating. We want to discourage steroids because they’re bad for you, and we don’t want to incentivize athletes to compete by destroying themselves. If it were simply a question of banning anything that improves your performance, then vitamins would be out.

jane Says:

^ #word BBB, #word!

lakie Says:

Till whatever it is that Sharapova was using was banned, it was legal. The egg is not banned so far but it is performance enhancing. This proves Djok is a cheat, right? I remember wogboy saying that he would completely boycott Djok if he is using performance enhancing stuff even if it is legal.

Wog Boy Says:

You are confused, it can’t be legal and performance enhancing, either one or another. Surely I’ll stop cheering Nole if the egg is banned in the future and he is caught using it, try to see the difference, if you think hard you might get it.
Are they going to take all gold medals from Phelps and declare him cheat because he was literally sleeping in the egg, no they won’t since it was legal at the time, he hasn’t broken the rules, see the difference?
Even the stuff Sharapova was using it was never medically proven PED, the reason it is banned is that was widely used, particularly in the east, so they presumed it is PED so they banned it. They were asked to produce medical proof by manufacturer that ot is PED, they never produced one.

Wog Boy Says:

Anyway, my Nole fan status is on hold until further notice, that doesn’t mean I’ll let a troll to get away with lies about 12 times GS winner.

skeezer Says:

Don’t bring Sharapova’s taking of drugs into this. She was found guilty, given the sentance and end of story.
Egg lovers unite, whatever crutch you need to succeed.

Wog Boy Says:

Go back watch basketball, your reading skills are failing you, your friend and fan brought Sharapova in.

lakie Says:

No wogboy, I am not confused. It is legal for people after injuries or surgery or for some physical ailment to take some drugs which are on the restricted list if they have obtained ITF’s permission. But you said if Djok did it, you would have nothing to do with him.
So you have to disown Djok for cheating and stop supporting him.

skeezer Says:

Go back and watch Serbia skeetball from Aus, your understanding skills need refurbishment.

Truth Says:

Let’s face it. Fed fanboys can only count on Fed to win some matches to look competitive against Murray, since Fed was demolished by players from the 1990s and 2010s, Rafter, Rusedski, GOAT Novak and Nadal.
It’s truly embarrassing that low standard tennis is treated as normal by desperate Fed fanatics.

I guess they desire out of shape players of 2004-2006 that were 20 pounds overweight.
Omg! Nole wants to breathe oxygen!
The reason so many Fed fans don’t come here is because they won’t be tolerated like at mtf forum.
Mtf has creepy Fed churchgoers as mods, and they still pay for their web hosting after 15 years.

lakie Says:

ok at least now we know Truth is a Djok fan which was not clear from the earlier rants. But I had suspected it because irrational attacks on other players is one of the hallmarks of a Djok fan.

Wog Boy Says:

We hit a nerve, not just reading but writing and mental skills too: “skeetball”?

I’ll leave you with lakie, you are perfectly suted for each other, give it a go, you never know, she sounds desperate, you might score ;)

skeezer Says:

Here is the nerve; Novak apparently needs more oxygen than others to dominate.
#Crutch
“..Nole fan status is on hold until further notice..”
They call that “fair weather fan”.
Time to warm up and accept Pepe Le Pew and the Egg tank. The dualopy is working fine, no?

Wog Boy Says:

There are rumors going around Aussiland that his holiness had to let Brisbane points drop and finish #17 for AO draw due to silent ban imposed after Wimbledon, coincidentally ITF announced that they are going to make all (future) silent bans public…week after his holiness made official announcement that he is gone until AO 2017, coincidentally excatly six months after Wimbledon, Brisbane started on 2nd of Jan and Wimbledon finished on 7th of July, couldn’t fit it in.

Despite all off coincidences, I don’t believe rumors, they are just that, rumors. The GOAT wouldn’t do that…but then again…

lakie Says:

Blood doping is banned because it increases oxygen in the blood. The egg does exactly the same. So Djok is cheating albeit with the blessings of the ITF. As wogboy believes that ITF is a corrupt body handing out silent bans to players like Fed, he will have no difficulty in believing that ITF is rigging draws for Djok and turning a blind eye to his use of the egg for performance enhancement…
Time to show wogboy that you meant what you said about not tolerating cheating even if it is with the connivance of ITF. Walk the talk, man!

Wog Boy Says:

^^^
Correction,
Wimbledon finished on 10th of July, doesn’t change anything, just for the sake of accuracy, you know….

Van Persie Says:

“Anyway, my Nole fan status is on hold until further notice,”

WB,

Nole payed the prize “for a part of his sins” by giving his possible best on Christmas day.
But I get your point.

Wog Boy Says:

VP,

That’s excatly right, I am giving him benefit of the doubt and hope that he will wake up to himself and go back to his roots, Verdasco might turn out to be blessing in disguise, agree with you from the other thread, Sir Andy Murray is the favorite for AO 2017.

J-Kath Says:

Every time I see wee Andy referred to as “Sir Andy Murray” I wince, in fact it takes a year off my life each time.

Wog Boy Says:

JK,

I don’t want you to live any shorter than you are supposed to so I will refrain from calling him “sir”, but you have to tell that to British media too or you won’t make it until next Christmas..

J-Kath Says:

Thank You Wog Boy:

I might not make it to next Christmas under any circumstances given my reprehensible life-style – but thanks for your concern. I avoid newspapers although I’m occasionally tempted by a titillating tennis title on-line.

Margot Says:

So Andy’s Sushi chef is the same as Nole’s oxygen chamber?
Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha! Have heard it all now. What a wonderful web of disinformation you weave CF1. BTW Meryl Streep rocks.
Moving on….If Andy stays 2 miles behind the baseline, then Nole is the favourite for AO, without doubt.

J-Kath Says:

Chrisford 1:

The “small wealthy few” were not always wealthy. I don’t think any of them have “blue” blood or were born with a silver spoon attached to their mouth(s). As no-one gave them their wealth could they possibly have earned it? Goodness, gracious me – how extraordinary.

J.S. Says:

Just one question….

Does Djoko use the egg in conjunction w/ the hugs or just one at a time?

Veka Says:

Wog Boy,
If you were a real fan, you would never put your support on hold. Now that your favourite player is not noo.1 you criticise, predict an easy 2 set loss, then show yourself after a win. You will be a huge fan after AO. Right? You could read some insightful posts on this blog before it was drowned in babbling of fairweather fans.

Van Persie Says:

Veka,

I hope that you or WB will not be mad, that I will give my feedback on this.
I think WB was more angry because of the attitude of Djoko from the last half of 2016, especially from the YEC final, not because of the nr. 1 ranking. I was in the same situation, even if I did not use WB’s words.
Even if I am a huge supporter of Novak, I cannot digest and applaud some of his actions or choices. Ok, we love Novak, but this does not mean, we are not allowed to criticize him.
Even if Novak had lost the e set on Saturday, I would have been pleased, because he played that match with his heart. Am sure, that WB feels the same.

Van Persie Says:

Correction: even if Novak had lost the 3 set..not e set

J.S. Says:

Sorry….I was trying to be funny! Guess I was out of line, accept my apologies

Okiegal Says:

@JS…..Funny doesn’t usually work here……LOL!!

Willow Says:

J.S What one person finds funny, aint necassarily what another does, never the less youve said nothing thats needs apologizing for anyway, believe me i spent years on this forum apologizing for saying this or that, and i thought why should i ? ,when nobody else here does, i even used to apologize for being happy when my favorite won a title, looking back i think i was a mug, and spend too much time trying to be a people pleaser, well not anymore, sorry for rambling ….

Veka Says:

Van Persie,
Thank you for your response. I’ve been following Djokovic since 2005. How many ups and downs. Who would have thought the first part of last year he woud win everything that could be won. Did you think that would last forever? Who are we to judge? He is just human. He gets tired like all of us.

Chrisford1 Says:

MOrgot – I know you are not stupid. But we are talking things that give competitive advantage not available to the entire Tour. Just wealthy players and players from well-off national sports associations that can afford the stuff.
No, Rafa’s platelet reinfusion therapy ampules look NOTHING like Roger’s private jet. And private chefs and nannies don’t resemble a hyperbaric egg…
To use Andy’s favorite new word – obviously!

Streep? Those Oscar, Emmy, Golden Globe shows are dreary, go on too long – but gays and some women love them. And the shows and awards are often valuable marketing tools. One thing unique to celebs is they believe their opinion carries more weight than most Americans and that their “audience” is just dying to hear their political views and eco, gay, pet lover, etc. opinions.
Hillary campaign surrogate Merl Streep was crushed when the Annointed President-in-waiting was chucked on the ash heap of nepotism and a failed status quo.

Willow Says:

Sexist and homophobic much (YUCK) ….

Margot Says:

That’s not what you said CF1.
As for the rest, Jeez man, can you not hear yourself?
I personally don’t give a fig about the Globes, as you say they are a self-congratulatory marketing too. But good on Meryl Streep for using them to make a point about the disgusting views of the chump.

Truth Says:

Veka
I don’t think Nole was too exhausted to win.

Nole’s contradicting himself.
Now that he’s bowing down to Murray, he enjoys fighting for titles.
He changes his mind and wants to play for 10 years.

In 2014, he wished to stop worrying about tennis.
Last year, he hoped to give the tiredness excuse.
Becker talked crap about Nole not spending time with Jelena & missing FEDAL.
He was unhinged because he was embarrassed that every top player was his turkey and became bitter that Marko Djoko was a tennis loser that had nothing to do but make money with his brother, and cry about magical healing by the guru that stopped his own loneliness/sadness.
The guru idea was mind numbingly stupid, especially since 2016.
He was willingly to look talentless & humiliated for Marko.
Marko was too “depressed” and left out of Nole’s ‘dream’ life.
Jelena cheers on the guru because she’s an opportunist.
She didn’t want to lose Nole’s money. Don’t be fooled by their humble beginnings when she hopped on the athlete star bandwagon.

Veka Says:

Truth,
He was tired mentally…i was tired watching. As he said himself he didnt fall, he just sat down to rest. I remember how frustraingit was and what it took him to win the french open. Not just the lossses, but the death of his grandfather and his coach. Of course, it took a lot out of him.As for guru stuff and family matters. Well, we don’t know that. We only know what the press serves us, and the press has been unfair to him. Even the headline of this thread suggest he sleeps in the egg and only ventures out of it on occassion.

Veka Says:

In Serbia we have two football clubs. Red Star and Partizan. For decades they’ve been crap but their true supporters go to the games, cheer for them, get upset when they lose. Players change, years go by,they know they suck. It’s called loyalty.

Wog Boy Says:

VP,

Thanks, you save me explaning myself, that’s how I felt.

Veka,

Before you start babbling and judging by one post somebody you don’t know much about, somebody who was and is on this forum defending Nole and country you live in when it was only few Nole fans on this forum, roughly eight years now, somebody who is born and raised in the same city as you it would be helpful to learn mote about that somebody.
I know your name from Nole forum, that I don’t post any more due to argument that I had with Alfa Male on that forum about Becker. My problem are not Nole’s results and losing #1, couldn’t care less about that after all of his achievements, my problem was (is) his atitude and choices, choices that I never believed he will make, the people who followed me here know that, you obviously haven’t read them but made your opinion about me reading one my post. Nobody, but nobody has my unconditional support, not even my kids, unconditional mean whatever they do I will support and justify, and I am not that kind of person, nor accept that attitude and that’s not called loyalty, but fanaticism and brainwashing.

Good you mention Partizan and Zvezda, mafia run clubs, who on earth is going to watch their games when it is not even safe to watch it, I grew up watching them with my father, he enrolled me as boy in 1966 as a member of Partizan club, the times when you could go with family on sunday and enjoy the game, today you don’t know whether you’ll come back home in one peace. Do you want me to post video from last year of bashing up security and trying to bash President of Partizan in front of their office and nobody came out to stop them, is that what you support? They should cease their existence, both clubs, but how when politicians are involved in it, selling footballers is big business, easy money and it is controlled by mafia, we are talking abou millions of dollars, you support that? Yes, if you unconditionally support either of the clubs.
I even played in juniors Partizan basketball club, when it was only one Arena in Belgrade, new Belgrade one,
Sorry, I don’t take lessons from Veka about loyalty, but you are free to be loyal the way you understand loyalty, but don’t try to impose your loyalty on others, that’s democracy.
That’ll be from me, welcome to TX.

Veka Says:

Wog boy,
I don’t post on any other forum. i’ve been following this forum since 2008.maybe you posted under a different nick, maybe you supported another player. You are sure adept at twisting words and making digressions. This is not a blog about your personal life, your childhood, music you like or opinions about a country you dont live in. It is about tennis. Not you. And the sad thing is that posters who actually posted about tennis, stopped posting…

J-Kath Says:

Okie

Oh Okie – “Funny doesn’t work here” – my dear friend this is possibly the first time I disagree with you.

J.S. Felt like making an apology – how many of us felt an apology was required? OK – was slightly off centre but was obviously so that I can’t imagine anyone took it for anything other than a wowwe! – given the trend of the conversation.

J-Kath Says:

Truth

To be truthful – I’m never sure what your point is. Are you a Novak fan? a Novak fair-weather fan? or an overall critic of the life choices of the top tennisplayers? This is a genuine request because so far you confuse my positional brain.

Wog Boy Says:

Veka,

I’ve been posting under same moniker since 2009, you obviously haven’t followed carefully enough TX, never supported any other player in that period, and as I said you have your understanding of loyalty, I have mine and you don’t impose yours as only one that is right.
I didn’t twist anything, I just followed your words, you are the one that used clubs from your country as example of loyalty, I just explained who are you loyal to, do you want me to post that video or not, the video of beautiful Belgrade clubs and how they are run and by who, you took them as example, not me. I was in Belgrade in October when one of those from the video was shot dead, Sale Mutavi, who was directly connected to your premier, so much that even he expressed sorrow next day, sorrow for drug dealer and criminal who was doing dirty jobs for his party.
As for people talking other things than tennis, it is up to Sean and moderator to ban them, not you, if you don’t like them, scroll them.
Last, but not least, there is poster Veka on Nole forum, you might not be the same person, but…

J-Kath Says:

Veka

Did you have a different posting name? If you’ve been following this site since 2008 I’m assuming you must have felt the need to comment? I’ve only been posting since 2015 or thereabouts….hence my question….but don’t remember your name.

BBB Says:

I actually think Fed is far more dangerous in these circumstances. The best-of-five format takes more of a toll on him than on younger players, so he’ll be better able to take on Djoker/Murray in earlier rounds, before the wear and tear.

Margot, you are cracking me up.

skeezer Says:

2:53 post needs to racked and classified in the “out-a-line” file.

BBB Says:

skeezer, you and I disagree often.

But not on that.

skeezer Says:

BBB,
👍

Wog Boy Says:

JK,

Very smart question, that never occurred to me, but then again I am a bit slow, I admit.

Chrisford1 Says:

It’s very tough to be the son or brother following in the footsteps of a spectacularly successful sibling or Dad. In some families you get a couple noted siblings, but say with Venus and Serena – they still had 4 other sisters with little athletic talent.
Tougher when your Dad (Srdjan) admits that he spent most of his time with the “golden child” and not the other two. He simply had no money or time left.
The family (and that includes Novak) perhaps should have been more tuned in, I guess, to Marko’s career difficulties and depression – set up another path he could take other than as a successful tennis Tour pro. BUt depression is hard to notice in some people who feel obligated to “put on a good show” and not burden others with their illness.
The younger brother appears to have adjusted better. Very smart, educated, presents well…not fazed by being in Novak’s shadow, or his own meager results in pro Tour tennis.

In some families, siblings fly off to different lives and locales and barely know or see each other that much by their late 20s, but Djokovic has the same pattern with his brothers as he does with coaches and friends. He stays in their lives, likes them and is liked in return. He has other people’s backs, and they know it.

Rafa is similar. Nice guy who keeps friends for the long haul, very close to family.

J-Kath Says:

So Wogboy we await equally agog.

Wog Boy Says:

CF1,

Interesting you mentioned three brothers, it might be so called “middle child syndrome”, I didn’t know anything about that until recently, didn’t even know something like that exists in psychology and sociology, since I heard it from the person who is qualified in that area.
My friend, who is now successful solicitor, confirmed that too to me. He said that all his life he was know as middle brother, nobody from his family expected anything from him nor took him seriously, he struggled a lot until he found his footing.

Okiegal Says:

@JK…….On being funny on TX…….maybe I should have said it doesn’t work some of the time……speaking from experience……CHEERS!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻 I hope you are doing OK!

Wog Boy Says:

JK,

You just proved what I always believed, women are sharper than men, that’s for sure.

skeezer Says:

Anyone see
La
La
Land? Despite what you have read here, this……is not it.

J-Kath Says:

Okie: Pleased to hear from you. I love a touch of humour within tennis exchanges. Brings a smile – even if it is naughty.

I have 3 poignant anniversaries in January – I’m moving to take better control as of 1st Feb. – strikes me as extraordinary that indeed it does take a year before one can move forward – as history suggests.

Thank you, dear friend.

J-Kath Says:

Wogboy:

U are a character – I’ll bet your entire family love you but wish they didn’t.

Wog Boy Says:

Something like that JK:)
