Roger Federer goes for an eighth career Dubai title this week as the No. 3 seed behind No. 2-seeded defending title winner and Swiss compatriot Stan Wawrinka, and world No. 1 Andy Murray:

Seeds: Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Roger Federer, Gael Monfils, Tomas Berdych, Roberto Bautista Agut, Lucas Pouille, Gilles Muller

Notes: Murray, Wawrinka and Federer make three of the more high-profile Top 10ers in the field…Not a lot of floating talent, but (8) Muller starts against the veteran Kohlschreiber, and (3) Federer starts against the dangerous Paire…(1) Andy Murray starts against Malek Jazari, and (2) Warinka against Damir Dzumhur…Wildcards were awarded to the UAE’s Omar Alawadhi, Bautista Agut and Egypt’s Mohamed Safwat…Marcos Baghdatis withdrew from the field…Wawrinka beat Baghdatis in last year’s final…Former champions in the field are Wawrinka (2016) and the seven-time champion Federer (2015-14,’12,’07,’05-03).

Honestly,i don’t think stan will defend his title…it’s either Andy or Roger this year…i hope Andy..he needs this win to restore his confidence back after early AO loss…BUT,to do it against The great Roger Federer when Roger just secured his 18th and a 7 time champion here..IT’S A LOT!!But Andy is a world no 1…let’s see how he’s going to respond by that title and his early loss at AO..C’MON ANDY!!U CAN DO IT!!!

Feds been taking the ball earlier like never before.
I saw some stats during the match that said he’s taking the ball on the rise 62% of the time.
Many of his return and shots look like a hybrid of a half volley and a shot.
His sixth sense of tennis ensures continues to amaze fans all over the world.
Relish Federer while we can, cause there will not be one like him.

@Skeezer – they showed these stats on tv during the match. They said they can get these stats using hawk eye technology now

I did read another article that has some good info on Fed taking the ball on the rise.
