Svitolina, an Outside No. 1 Shot in 2017, Starts Strong with WTA Brisbane Crown

It was the continuation of a stunning run in championship matches for Svitolina. The Ukrainian went 5-0 in finals last year, three of them Premier-level, the first player to win three Premier titles in the same season. Year-end No. 1 Simona Halep by comparison was 1-4 in finals.

Halep Boosts No. 1 Status, Wins 2 Titles at WTA Shenzhen

Halep turned around after the singles final to beat Siniakova again in the doubles championship, teaming with Irina-Camelia Begu to beat Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova 1-6, 6-1, 10-8.
