A stellar women’s field and a less-than-stellar men’s slate greet the famed Sydney tour event this week, here’s a look at the field:

Women’s Seeds: Garbine Muguruza, Venus Williams, Jelena Ostapenko, Johanna Konta, Kristina Mladenovic, Sloane Stephens, Julia Goerges, Anastasija Sevastova

Women’s Floaters: Kiki Bertens, Daria Gavrilova, Sam Stosur, Ekaterina Makarova, (Q) Camila Giorgi, Petra Kvitova, Aggie Radwanska, Dominika Cibulkova, Lucie Safarova, Angie Kerber

Women’s Notes: Four of the Top 10 seeds and a field LOADED with floaters…The Top 2 seeds receive opening-round byes…Interesting openers for (1) Muguruza vs. the veteran Bertens, (7) Goerges vs. Stosur (winner to meet Gavrilova), (3) Ostapenko vs. Makarova, (6) Stephens vs. (Q) Giorgi (winner to meet Kvitova), (4) Konta vs. Radwanska, (8) Sevastova vs. Cibulkova, and (2) Williams vs. the Safarova/Kerber winner…Kerber unseeded a little over a year after finishing year-end No. 1…Wildcards were awarded to Muguruza and Aussies Ellen Perez, Olivia Rogowska and Stosur…Withdrawing from the field were Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Peng Shuai…Konta beat Radwanska (unseeded this year) in the 2017 final…Former champions in the field are Konta (2017), Kvitova (2015), and Radwanska (2013).

Men’s Floaters: Gilles Simon, Jared Donaldson, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Viktor Troicki, Fernando Verdasco, Feliciano Lopez, Leo Mayer
