Medvedev will play the grass despite not being allowed to play Wimbledon. The world No. 2 who has been banned from playing at the All England Lawn Tennis Club elected to play on the slick surface anyway, and will be the top seed this week in Den Bosch.

Medvedev will play alongside the likes of Wimbledon quarterfinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime, Taylor Fritz, Alex De Minaur and countryman Karen Khachanov.

Medvedev, like the other top 3 seeds, will receive a first round bye. He could face home hero Botic Van De Zandschulp in his quarter and De Minaur in the semifinals.

Fritz is projected to meet countryman Jenson Brooksby while second-seeded Auger-Aliassime is slated to face Khachanov.

Sam Querrey, Gilles Simon and Bernard Tomic, who already lost to Querrey, were among those in qualifying.

French semifinalist Marin Cilic was a late withdrawal.

The tournament has not been held since 2019 when Adrian Mannarino won it over Jordan Thompson.
