Great champions rise up. And Roger Federer rose up today with a convincing 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win over rival David Nalbandian in the Monte Carlo quarterfinals.

The good news for Roger Federer is that he’s now a perfect 7-0 on the red clay this year. The bad news is that he hasn’t beaten anyone of significance and his next opponent in Monte Carlo just happens to be an in-form David Nalbandian.

The Top 5 happenings in pro tennis heading into the week of Nov. 5, 2007.

Well, that final was convincing, wasn’t it? David Nalbandian hammered World No. 2 Rafael Nadal 64 60 to win the Paris Tennis Masters, his second consecutive Masters title following his Madrid win over Roger Federer two weeks ago.

First, I have to give full credit to Roger Federer for playing in Paris when he really doesn’t need to be there.

So who had David Nalbandian winning the Madrid title at the start of the week? Not me, that’s for sure. I doubt anyone did! And if they did, they lied.
