The Top 5 happenings in pro tennis heading into the week of Nov. 5, 2007.

Tennis is really looking good these days. When you do a search for the tennis in the news, here’s what you get (or at least I got): A story about a sick, perverted female tennis coach in England who wears her student’s panties, and then of course gambling.

This story is a couple days old, but worth refreshing. On the heels on Nikolay Davenko’s investigation last month, I wrote about how tennis is an easy target for criminal organizations looking to cash in by fixing matches. Well, things are not getting any better for tennis.

With many of the top sports mired in negative controversy the last few weeks tennis was out in the clear, looking good and sitting pretty basking in the summer sunshine.

Now for something completely different. I know based on my last post many of you think of me as a total idiot. Fair enough. I won’t argue that point, at least not right now.

Instead, I got my schedule of matches for tomorrow, and my ATP notes and my ATP guide, so I figured while I got some time why not make some picks on tomorrow’s Pista Central matches in Madrid. So without further adieu…

My colleague Mr. Vach sure got into hot water forecasting that Roger Federer would not match Pete’s six straight years at No. 1. And judging by the comments, the Federphiles were not amused. Having roamed around the internet a bit, it’s crystal clear when talking about the greatest tennis player one has to tread very cautiously as to not incite the many Federer faithful.
