Notes: Solid field with four Top 10ers and two unseeded Slam champs…The Top 4 seeds receive opening round byes, with tough starts for (5) Ivanovic vs. Lisicki, (4) Azarenka after a bye likely vs. (WC) Venus, (3) Kerber likely vs. Vandeweghe, (7) Suarez Navarro vs. Puig, and (2) Radwanska likely vs. Garcia…Wildcards went to Americans Kristie Ahn and Venus, and Azarenka…Pulling from the tournament were Sara Errani and Petra Kvitova…Cibulkova beat Radwanska in last year’s final…Venus is 2-4 in Stanford finals…Martina Navratilova (5-4) has reached the most Stanford finals in the tournament’s history…Returning champs in the field are Cibulkova (2013), Serena Williams (2012-11), Azarenka (2010), and Venus Williams (2002,’00).

Hewitt, Cuevas, Bautista Agut, Halep, Petkovic Win ATP/WTA Titles

In the singles final the Aussie won his 30th career singles title, defeating “Dr.” Ivo Karlovic 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-6(3). In the doubles final he partnered with countryman Chris “Penthouse” Guccione, defeating Jonathan Erlich and Rajeev Ram 7-5, 6-4.

Halep closed out a tight second set against surprise No. 28 seed Andrea Petkovic 6-2, 7-6(4), while Sharapova needed to come back from a set down to defeated No. 18 seed and upstart Canadian teen Genie Bouchard 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Nadal, Ferrer Line Up QF Meeting at French Open

“I will try to do my best,” said Ferrer of the quarterfinal meeting. “I will try to play aggressively with my forehand and try to finish the points at the net…Tactically, I will have to be perfect. I hope that I will instill some doubts in Rafa’s mind, but if we play at our best level, both of us, he will be the better player.
