Tennis-X Previews: Sydney, Hoe-bart, More; X-Notes!

We thought Serena was all warm and fuzzy these days, hanging with bestie Caroline Wozniacki at the end of 2014, complimenting others, having charity events, showing her warm side, giving lollipops to children, but Evil Serena reared her head yesterday at the Hopman Cup when she choked the mixed doubles and called the chair umpire a liar! YOU’RE A LIAR! Here’s to an eventful 2015!

It was the first career set Williams had lost to Wozniacki, going on to win her 46th career WTA title, but not so easily. Williams found herself down a set and a break early in the second.

Wozniacki, now into the Saturday semifinals where she will meet her friend Serena, would not have even qualified for the year-end champion had not Li Na withdrew from the tournament after announcing her retirement.

“Today I was really fighting all the way,” said Serena, whose participation was in doubt after a knee injury earlier in the month. “Ana played so well, I was just trying to fight as hard as I could. I was even losing my voice from shouting ‘Come on!’ so much.”
