“It definitely felt really good today,” Williams said. “I kept my unforced errors rather low. On a couple shots out there I think I got pretty lucky, but I’ve been practicing really hard and it’s all just paying off, so I don’t know if it’s luck. I don’t believe in luck — I believe in hard work.”

“I was a little bit nervous in the first set and part of the second,” Ferrer said. “But I tried to fight every point, to be focused and I had a good feeling in the final of the second set and of course in the third one.”

“All the credit to him,” Djokovic said. “He played a great match and he was the better player, no question about it. The results show everything. As far as I’m concerned, it’s definitely the worst match I have played in a long time.”

“I was more aggressive. I went for my shots much more than him,” Gulbis said. “But he did really incredibly well, as he always does, on the important points. It’s really tough to beat the guy.”

“I’m just going to hopefully play well, hopefully be aggressive, hopefully on those break points, deuce points, have some balls go my way,” said Querrey, who will be the new No. 1-ranked American when the next ATP rankings are released. “I’m going to try and just enjoy it out there. I might have to go outside of my comfort zone a little bit and do things I don’t like to do, and hopefully it will pay off for me.”
