WTA Tour Announces 2011 Calendar, New Combined Events

The 2011 calendar features 20 Combined ATP/WTA events including the Internazionali BNL d’Italia (Rome) and the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters and Women’s Open (Cincinnati), which will make their debut as combined tournaments.

WTA Tour Wraps “Making of a Hero” Online Film Series and Game

The online game will be unveiled to coincide with the relaunch of the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour website and the grand prize winner will be awarded an all-expenses paid trip to the season-ending Sony Ericsson Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Clijsters Comeback Update: Seeks Advice from Davenport

“Kim Clijsters sent me an email with questions about how to travel and live with a child on the WTA circuit,” said Davenport, who is doing TV commentator for FOX Sports’ coverage of Indian Wells. “So I think she will play WTA tournaments beside exhibition games in Wimbledon and the United States.”

Dementieva Runs Through All-Russian Final at WTA Auckland

Top-seeded Elena Dementieva, continuing her confident run since capturing gold at the 2008 Olympics, won her 12th career title Saturday in the all-Russian final at the ASC Classic in Auckland, sweeping past unseeded Elena Vesnina 6-4, 6-1.

Tennis-X Weekend Wrap: ATP in Court; Serena Off Court at IW

In a final that will never make the cover of a women’s fitness magazine, Canadian qualifier Aleksandra Wozniak upset No. 6 seed Marion Bartoli 7-5, 6-3. Wozniak became the first Canadian since 1988 to win a WTA Tour singles title.
