Thank you Roland Garros.

More like a farewell party!

Just my Humble Opinion.

Lose to who if I may ask?

Some posters are obviously not in the loop. RG has always celebrated Rafa’s birthday.

I love how Rafa makes sure all the ballkids and security have cake.

:-)

Michael Says:

Heartily wish Rafa a very happy Birthday and many best returns of the day. He is still 28 and he has already won 8 Rolland Garros titles. You can just imagine the sheer magnitude of this achievement which is just amazing. I do not think we will see a player like Rafa on Clay courts atleast for another 4 generations.

metan Says:

Thanks Tom for posting the video. And the hat is really cool.

@Michael. Thank you for your sweet words. It feels good whenever I read your posts not only for Rafa but it goes to other players as well.

@TGIT
If you can’t see the different between birthday party and farewell party, it’s the best time for you to visit a doctor.
Just my humble opinion!

Michael Says:

Thanks Metan for all your generous words of appreciation. It really requires a big heart to praise others and you can feel proud that you own it. Three cheers !!

By the way, have you noticed the perfect bit of symmetry that Rafa’s birthday falls during French Open ? I think that is very special. A sensation on a particular court finds his birthday fall during the course of that event. It is more than a coincidence.

Hippy Chic Says:

Its lovely that RG celebrates all birthdays whether its Rafas or Novaks or whomever,no need to make an issue about it both are very popular….

Hippy Chic Says:

Michael nice posts,Rafa celebrating his birthday at RG quite fitting really….

Michael Says:

Alison, Thanks.

The prospect of a Rafa Vs Andy semi-final looms large and what an entertaining match that would be. It has been a while since these two faced one another. Although I give a scant chance to Andy to get the better of Rafa on Clay, I think the contest would be very engrossing considering the profile of both the players and the mutual respect they accord one another. The match would give us an idea as to whether Andy has matured on Clay and has come of age. If Andy goes down fighting, that would lift his high spirits ahead of Wimbledon where he has to defend his crown.

Hippy Chic Says:

Michael yeah assuming both get that far i can live with the result either way, imagine Andy beating Rafa on clay at RG for a 1st ever final,he would be brimming with confidence for the final, whether he could beat most likely Novak in the final?is another thing though?but i agree either way he is getting match tough now especially with Wimbledon coming up and thats great news, would love him to defend wimbledon or win RG or both, same for Rafa but id like to see Rafa make the 3rd round for a start especially given the dissapointment of the last two years, would like to see Rafa and Andy on oppsite sides for a chance of a GS final as we havent had that permation in a GS final as yet?

Michael Says:

Alison,

Even to imagine Andy beating Rafa at Rolland Garros seems to be a tough proposition because the ease with which Rafa has handled Andy at clay courts in particular. Andy is just ill at ease when he faces Rafa on a dirt surface. He is just not able to control his play with Rafa dictating all over. I do not know whether this upcoming battle would be any different. But I am keeping my fingers crossed. Yes, both are the on the verge of entering record books. Rafa with an unprecedented 9th crown and Andy on the verge of joining the illustrious list of those who won French and Wimbledon back to back.

Hippy Chic Says:

Michael thanks for the feedback, agree what your saying makes alot of sense, and i will add that the last time they faced each other here at RG Andy was not a GS champion, however he is now so this is new territory for both,CDP also said on the other thread that Lendel had some new tactics for Andy to use against Rafa, unfortunatly they never met while he was Andys coach, just a theory, however we will see what happens it will be interesting though….

Michael Says:

Alison,

For sure, Andy can spring up a few surprises. Afterall, you can never count him out as he is a Grand Slam Champion. I hope Andy has an ace up his sleeve to stop Rafa’s Jaggernaut at Rolland Garros. Afterall, the fire of hope never wanes from human mind as life would become miserable otherwise.

Hippy Chic Says:

Michael if Andy beats Rafa then im pulling for him to win the title, and i would give him a good chance against most likely Novak in the final, unless Gulbis beats Federer,Berdych,Djokovic back to back(cant see it),then either Rafa or Andy in the final, although stranger things have happened?
