Rafael Nadal’s sponsor, PokerStars.net, released this video of the tennis great enjoying some poker fun and BBQ at his house in Mallorca.

“My history with this game is simple,” Nadal told Marca via Google Translation. “Those Sunday afternoons where it rains and not much to do, I played a little game with my friends or my family.”

Nadal, who admitted he doesn’t like to bluff, also said that post tennis he could see himself joining the poker tour, maybe playing in the World Series of Poker.

Since his loss to Nick Kyrgios at Wimbledon, Nadal has vacationed in Ibiza, done some fishing and most recently has begun training for the hardcourts.

Nadal will make his return next month in Canada where he begins a 3-tournament title defense (Canada, Cincinnati, US Open).

Hippy Chic Says:

Love the top video Rafa looks like hes really enjoying himself,i only wish i was there :),there was some nice memories from last year in the second video, nobody would give him much hope of defending any/many of those titles given his tradition, but i would happily settle for one/two especially if one is the USO,although im not hopefull, anyway as long as hes there playing win or lose, let all critisism come afterwards,as im sure the haters will be circling, and foaming at the mouth waiting and loving the downfall should it happen….

skeezer Says:

Nice to know Rafa has a career in GAMBLING after tennis. Good luck with that.

Giles Says:

I am pretty sure that line was for the benefit of the sponsors!!

Hippy Chic Says:

Skeezer hes just enjoying himself with friends, surely you cant find anything negative in that?theres nothing wrong with gambling, many bet on the horses or play the lottery or bingo, nothing wrong in it as long it doesnt become an obsession i wouldve thought?

Okiegal Says:

Have fun, Rafael…….I’m fixing to bet on the ponies at Lexington, Kentucky……we’re in bluegrass country. Just kidding……the thoroughbreds aren’t running……dang it! We’re having a good time, Chic. Thanks for the well wishes!

@Chic

Keep everyone lined out regarding our Rafa on TX…..as I’m too exhausted to fuss!!! Lol

Dingodingo Says:

@skeezer: Why would Rafa need a career of any type after tennis? He’s made millions. Even if he did decide to pursue a career as a poker player, which is highly unlikely, what is wrong with that?

The man is having some fun with friends. Why should you make a negative comment?

Polo Says:

@skeezer: Hehehe! Everybody is jumping on you. Some people have difficulty riding in on jokes.

isaak.ib Says:

Your report is factually wrong. Rafael Nadal in fact said he couldn’t ever see himself doing the World Series of Poker but that he wouldn’t mind taking part in one or two tournaments, in Las Vegas or Australia for example, and killing two birds with one stone by using the trips to do a bit of tourism or other activities with a group of friends.

RZ Says:

Pics and videos of Rafa playing poker always crack me up. He doesn’t seem to have much of a poker face.

skeezer Says:

@polo
Aww so true, thanks of reading it right ;).
Looking forward to see what Rafa can do on the HC season.

SG1 Says:

Rafa’s life looks pretty damn good! He’s doing what any normal person would do in his position…enjoying every moment! He likes to play poker and blow a little dough here and there…so what…it’s really no big deal.

Dingodingo Says:

I get that Skeezer was attempting to make a joke, but it also seemed like a trollish comment meant to slag on Nadal.

Hippy Chic Says:

Looking forward to seeing what Rafa will do in the HC season exactly, definetly a slow time in tennis with too much off court kitsch sometimes….

jonathan Says:

Being paid seven figures to endorse Pokerstars is supposedly “GAMBLING” now.

Sounds more like a sure thing to me.

No brainer (double entendre).

judee Says:

everyone expecting a lot from Rafa this Hc season but I don’t think he’s going to win like last year if he can defend his title at the USO I will be the happiest person in the world

Hippy Chic Says:

Judee i dont think they are,but i think everyones looking forward to at least seeing him try,and given tradition he doesnt usually back up one great season with another,or defend none clay court titles either, but as the saying goes theres a 1st time for everything, and the irony is HCs are now his second best surface, and the USO is now his second best GS,as he struggles now more on grass….
