Rafael Nadal’s bid to return from injury at the US Open in three weeks is apparently on track, according to reports. Nadal injured his right wrist last Tuesday forcing him to withdraw from title defenses in Toronto and Cincinnati.

“Following a scan and clinical evaluation, his progress is on track, although he will still have tests from time to time,” the RFET said on their website (www.rfet.es).

According to Nadal camp, with a 2-3 recovery period for the wrist a decision on Rafa’s participation at the US Open could come as early as late next week.

Earlier today Nadal released new video of one of his training sessions.

“Good training session today!” he wrote:

Giles Says:

Vamos Champ! Hope you make it to the USO.

Daniel Says:

As soon as we see him hitting back hands again we’ll know he is good to go.

Giles Says:

Daniel. Stating the obvious! Hopefully won’t be long now.

Hippy Chic Says:

While i do hope he plays the USO,im just wondering how much one can actually decipher from a 18 second video clip?

Daniel Says:

Yes Giles but I meant in a sense that until we actually DO see him hitting one, this news don’t add much. If until Aug 20-23rd we haven’t see no BH from him, don’t believe he will play USO.

Still 15 days of uncertainty.

Wog boy Says:

Rafa will play USO, he took time off to work on his game. I can’t remember if he was ever injured during CC season or missed CC tournament, yet he missed quite a few HC masters, GS …

Michael Says:

Some good piece of news at last. It now appears almost certain that Rafa will defend his US Open crown and that is really encouraging. There was a big vacuum at the top with the absence of Rafa and his come back might set back the ball rolling all over again.

amadeus Says:

now a wrist drama.

skeezer Says:

yawn…

Okiegal Says:

Now a wrist drama?? This is nothing new …..we have been in a “wrist drama” for several weeks now. Did we all forget about Novak’s?? His wrist had been mentioned prior to CC season, but it cooled down before US HC began. Winning Wimby sealed the deal…..wrist back to normal. Now if Rafa can get his out of the splint, things will be looking up for his faithful fans!!

Okiegal Says:

^^^^^Oh, I forgot about DelPo’s wrist and his surgery. It will be good for tennis to have him healthy again. Love to watch him play…..almost as much for Rafa!! Pulling for Andy in Canada, Oh, Canada. C’mon Andy!!!

jane Says:

nole’s wrist injury happened *after he won the two us hard court masters, when he was practicing to play on clay at monte carlo. it irritated him again when practicing to play on grass. probably the shifts in surfaces can tweak injuries because of impact points etc. nole’s injured wrist was the one he hits with.

in one week since the nadal injury was announced already 2 videos of practice have been posted here so i am guessing that it means he should be ready to go soon, in time for the us open.

Hippy Chic Says:

Jane Novak seems fine now and thats great, but this is Rafa we are talking about now, i said it earlier in the thread, how can one decipher how he is from such short videos?….

Hippy Chic Says:

Wogboy he missed Wimbledon in 2009,USO in 2012,AO in 2013,he has missed smaller tournies on clay like Barcelona, but to the best of my knowledge hes not missed the FO,anyway most people seem to think its a shoo he will play the USO,although they seem to be going by what they are seeing in these videos, but im just wondering how much one can garner about his form,by looking at a couple of short clips?its as Daniel says this doesnt really tell us anything much….
BTW i left you another post on the Andy thread, thanking you for the links, just wondering if you read it?….

madmax Says:

Alison,

He will play the USO.

I think you have to give your guy a bit more respect for taking recovery time and have more faith in his recovery programme.

No way he misses the USOpen.

It is just a precautionary measure and is not going to ruin his chances of winning more tournaments. Remember that.

Hippy Chic Says:

Madmax i wish i had your confidence, ive heard it before, only to end up dissapointed….

mad max Says:

So Allison…may be its time for change. Every player has barren stretches for whatever reason. Rafa is no different. Look at all fans out there of Murray, nole and roger, also delpo. You can t give up at the first hurdle. Raft is always the player who comes back the strongest.

Hippy Chic Says:

Alright Madmax ill take your word for it….

metan Says:

Yesssssssss. Rafa is coming to uso, so do I.
VAMOS Rafa!
