Grigor Dimitrov Says Girlfriend Maria Sharapova Is The Greatest Fighter Ever
It was an exciting day for the Grigor Dimitrov-Maria Sharapova couple. Dimitrov was tested a little bit by Lukas Lacko but won in four sets to reach the third round. But girlfriend Sharapova was embroiled in the match of the tournament saving two matchpoints and overcoming a 4-1 third set deficit to win 7-5 in the third over Russian qualifier Alexandra Panova.
Afterward, Dimitrov talked about how tough his girlfriend is after she orchestrated yet another one of her trademark comebacks.
“I think I should be the last person to sort of judge that, but I think you can’t name one thing in particular with her,” said Dimitrov. “I think she’s been fighting throughout all those years, through everything that is in her way, jumped all the hurdles and all the obstacles. By far the greatest fighter ever.”
Dimitrov and Sharapova have been dating for two years now.
Dimitrov will play 2006 finalist Marcos Baghdatis on Friday in the third round. Sharapova meets Zarina Diyas.
“I like winning more than I like losing,” Sharapova said. “I’m sure that goes for many people. But, you know, no matter how things go within a match, that’s why I said I didn’t feel that I was positive enough, even though I was making a few more errors than I would have liked. And I wasn’t making enough first serves. But I was thinking about it too much instead of just like being in the present, saying, Hey, go up to the line; do what you do; do what you’ve done thousands of times. I’m good at that and I’ll continue to be good at that. But some days are just a little off. Today was one of them.”
