Roger Federer And Stan Wawrinka Will Play Davis Cup For Switzerland Against The Netherlands In September
With an eye toward Olympic qualification, friends Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka opted into Switzerland’s home playoff tie this September against The Netherlands.
“We are very excited to announce that both Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka have confirmed their presence at the Davis Cup playoff tie #SUIvNED from 18 – 20 September! The venue will be confirmed next week as well as the starting date for ticket sales,” said a post on the Swiss Davis Cup facebook page.
Switzerland won the Davis Cup last year for the first time, but without Federer or Wawrinka the Swiss fell in the first round to Belgium.
By Olympic rule, all players wishing to play in Rio must participate in one Davis Cup or Fed Cup tie in 2015 or in 2016.
Wawrinka withdrew from next week’s Gstaad event due to a shoulder injury. Federer isn’t expected to return until August 10th in Montreal.
