Roger Federer And Stan Wawrinka Will Play Davis Cup For Switzerland Against The Netherlands In September

With an eye toward Olympic qualification, friends Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka opted into Switzerland’s home playoff tie this September against The Netherlands.

“We are very excited to announce that both Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka have confirmed their presence at the Davis Cup playoff tie ‪#‎SUIvNED‬ from 18 – 20 September! The venue will be confirmed next week as well as the starting date for ticket sales,” said a post on the Swiss Davis Cup facebook page.

Switzerland won the Davis Cup last year for the first time, but without Federer or Wawrinka the Swiss fell in the first round to Belgium.

By Olympic rule, all players wishing to play in Rio must participate in one Davis Cup or Fed Cup tie in 2015 or in 2016.

Wawrinka withdrew from next week’s Gstaad event due to a shoulder injury. Federer isn’t expected to return until August 10th in Montreal.

Okiegal Says:

@Skeezer……Here ya’ go…..a Fed thread!!

Margot Says:

@OK
A Fed thread! WTH? On Tx! Surely not?

skeezer Says:

Lol…more country talk? Netherlands and Switzerland? WTHH??
How about a battle between Swindump and Stroke City?

sienna Says:

of all elite players Federer has the biggest hearth for DC.

Jock-KatH Says:

???? What is a hearth?????

Margot Says:

Lol Kat, a “hearth” is something above which you place a mantlepiece, upon which you place your DC trophies…;)

sienna Says:

yup english spelling is not my thing …..

but Im sure everybody understands it. Otherwise reactions wouldnot be so vivid.

sienna Says:

I will try to get tickets for O2. Catch up on my spelling after another straight sets victory by Fed under 1 hour against the scot. The scot who gets pumped up with cheering and calling out for England!

Sean Connery would turn in his grave if he
indeed wasnt still alive. Is he?

Murray is supposed to be proud, but money and public appearance must be more important then taking offence.

He ll get another thumping if he stays blend like that…

Patson Says:

Copy-pasting skeezer’s post in this thread since this is where it belongs.

Apparently the “arrogant” critics here need to read this.
The man, the legend, the myth, the all time marketable one ;)”

Everybody! Let’s do this exercise to ease skeezer’s workload. How about we all contribute and copy-paste the above comment in every Federer thread from now on ? That way skeezer won’t be forced to post this comment (or these types of comments) in unrelated threads ? It may also increase his tolerance for threads not related to Federer ( or “soap-operas” as he likes to call them).

Just a thought.

Okiegal Says:

@Margot 12:02

I’m as shocked as you are……NOT!! Lol

the DA Says:

“of all elite players Federer has the biggest hearth for DC.”

Or he wants to qualify for playing in The Olympics in Rio.

Wog Boy Says:

Tell her the DA, tell her!:)

Jock-KatH Says:

Dream on, Sienna.

Margot Says:

@Kat
Still hasn’t forgiven Andy for that Olympic gold obviously.
Bitter much

calmdownplease Says:

Federer will cure children of cancer on court with a touch of his racket when he commences his worldwide retirement year;
in 2025!
Either that or they’ll get a lindt bar each

Jock-KatH Says:

Argh Margot, the poor woman is pursued by hallucinations – she’s just a “wee timorous beastie” with a bit of a panic in her “breastie”.

She probably thinks Cilic won the Olympic gold.

madmax Says:

Sienna,

You do make me laugh sometimes; but I don’t really think that that is your intention. Why so weird over Murray? He has worked hard, and I think deserves a bit more respect from you.

Don’t worry, Federer has more than enough respect around the world, than worrying about CDP with their moronic comments. Shame to bring anything remotely about cancer on this thread CDP. Federer is a Unicef ambassador in the making, that is for sure. Save the banality of your Federer comments (I find them boring) for the rafa fans who join you in your thinking.

The DA, Federer will qualify as an individual already for the Olympics, or do you know something that we don’t?

Great if Switzerland qualify too – guess Fed and Stan will go for double gold again! Whooo hooo!

Jock-KatH Says:

@ Madmax

Re. entrée to Rio as a national player I thought you had to demonstrate what is regarded as real commitment and play minimum 2-DC.? Stan is already acceptable (I think) – believe Fed. needs to play again in the Autumn to qualify….open to correction – but think this is necessary for country-entry.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Madmax @12.54pm July 25th,as far as i can see there wasnt any Rafa fans supporting CDP in his thinking on this thread,i think your been a bit unfair there….

madmax Says:

GG,

You haven’t been around long enough, though you may be under a different moniker, to know what some posters slyly remark. It’s pretty transparent tbh.

There is plenty evidence out there to substantiate; in your case, however, I apologise if I am incorrect. :)

Jock – okay, thanks for that. Will look some more. I had thought though that Roger was “safe” there.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Madmax i have been around since 2011,i was Hippy Chick,im Alison originally,im not hiding behind sock puppets its just Hippy Chick and Gypsy Gal both fit my real life persona….

Jock-KatH Says:

Madmax

He will be as it looks like he means to continue – already playing Sept. – will probably play DC thereafter (believe in Nov.) – so he’ll be through – he’ll know what he needs.

calmdownplease Says:

Madmax
You are one of the worst a**suckers I have EVER seen in the free and prosperous Western world.
You are disgusting, and suffer from a disorder of such a magnitude of sycophancy that it is probably necessary (and for your own good) that you are Trapped and destroyed!

madmax Says:

CDP,

You will be reported.

You are just despicable with your comments, no only about me, but many others who disagree with you.

I hope you get banned.

MMT Says:

What’s the over under on both of them playing if either one of them wins the US Open? A distinct possibility for Wawrinka, less so (in my opinion) for Federer.

sienna Says:

madmax many of my best comments are not making the cut.

I consider myself well capable of bringing some fun to this site.
with posters like cdp you must be very stricked. no form of any nuances with turds like that. Murray will be fine just below the top dogs.

Jock-KatH Says:

Race to London:

Top Ten:
Only one aged under 28 —–Nishikori
Three over 30+
Six aged 28/29
Nole in the lead – way, way ahead.

PS: Rafa is No. 8 — good news eh? And not many points to defend for balance of year.

Sienna,

You are able to spot the nuances that offend. CDP has been reported to Sean with his/her aggressive, disgusting comments. Same with Wogboy and his sexual inuendos. There is no place for that here.

As far as Murray goes, I had problems with him way back, but I really do think that he is a brilliant player. Some of his shots against Roger, at Wimbledon, were sublime and I don’t just say that.

Roger is very close in his h2h with Murray, and it is never, in my view, by any means, an easy match between these two, as it could go either way.

Murray deserves his top 3 status.

madmax Says:

Watch the semi final match again, Federer v Murray, and you will see what I mean.

Why aren’t your comments making the cut?

madmax Says:

Jock,

Rafa will get to London.

It’s not even in question.

Gypsy Gal Says:

I think he has alot of ground to make up if he wants to get to London,he needs a second half of the season resurgance,i dont want to sound negative but i dont believe at this point its all that realistic, and i doubt he will be a factor even if he does,he never has done that well at London, would hope he doesnt get whitewashed….

sienna Says:

cdp needs to educated. So your doing a great job.

Nadal not only will qualify for O2. Hell be hard to beat at slam level. to beat 17. he probably needs 1 of next 2 and definitely Garros 16.

I m pulling for him to get Garros 16…

he ll get midevil on djokers ass…

madmax Says:

Aw Gypsy, (am interested why you want to change your name, three times now?).

As for Rafa – true, he hasnt won the WTF, but he can still do some damage and I do believe he has nothing to lose, everything to gain.

I remember a couple of years ago, Roger was Number 8, not far from where Rafa was now, but he got there eventually, I think ended up at No. 6 and got to the Finals.

So you should take a leap of faith, see that the net will miraculously come out of nowhere.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Madmax i thought Alison was a bit boring to be honest,Hippy Chick and Gypsy Gal both fit my real life persona, and my Pagan faith,so im not hiding behind sock puppets, ive always been up front about who i am….

Ive actually always wondered about where your nickname originated,is it anything to do with the Madmax trilogy films,or Mel Gibson per chance just curious?….

Anyway about Rafa,i dont know what to think these days who knows, ill wait to see what unfolds cheers….

Okiegal Says:

@Madmax

She saw how popular that I am on the forum so she did the “Gal” thing too!! NOT!! Kidding, of course! There is one thing I ain’t on here, and its popular!! Lol She’s a great Gal and we have a bond….and his name is………. :)

Gypsy Gal Says:

Okie lol,you are popular you interact well with other posters, and your SOH is great,so dont put yourself down and we do have a great raport even if we do disagree occasionally mostly on little things though,Okie and Gypsy both gals, and both fans of you know who, left you a post on the Novak thread, just wondered if you had read it?wasnt about you know who,but a certain Australian film star(AHEM)….;)….

Okiegal Says:

Thanks, GG! I will trot over to the other thread and see what you had to say about Jackie!! I’m ready for Australia #2. Loved that movie! That is the last one hubby took me to see! We must have been doing date night at the time…..I need to get that started up again…..rather dull by one’s self. But the buttered popcorn manages to get me through it!! Lol

madmax Says:

Girls,

I know. It’s nice to have that bond.

GG, madmax. No reason at all. Maxi you can call me if you wish.

Sienna, can’t work you out. Now you bat for Rafa? I just think that he will come good. Now is the time. Yes, he is 29, but still sublime, when he is working it.

madmax Says:

http://www.hindustantimes.com/cricketnews/roger-federer-named-world-s-most-marketable-sportsperson-india-s-ms-dhoni-is-9th/article1-1373331.aspx

Despite his loss in the Wimbledon final to Novak Djokovic, Federer is considered one of the most influential persons in the world. The Swiss, who has 17 Grand Slam singles titles to his credit, missed his chance to grab his eighth Wimbledon title recently.

“He may not have won Wimbledon this year, but it’s Federer’s personal characteristics which sponsors find so attractive,” said Jacques de Cock, faculty member at LSM.

Can’t wait for the USOpen. It’s such a pain, this hiatus, when we have been so spoilt all year!
