For Some Reason Grigor Dimitrov Decided To Hit This Volley Between His Legs [Video]

Grigor Dimitrov showed off some more of his incredible shotmaking skills and questionable shot selection earlier today in the Paris Indoors. Facing former US Open champion Marin Cilic, the Bulgarian opted to hit a volley between his legs. He won the point as Cilic – maybe stunned at Dimitrov’s choice – missed a forehand pass.

But other than because he can, why do it?

Tennisfan Says:

That leg stretch he did to get the racket to the ball was insane! But pretty awesome shot overall.

These guys are good! :)

Ben Pronin Says:

That didn’t seem necessary but was cool as hell and it looked like it pissed Cilic off so… well done?

I thought Dimitrov could have gone wider on a lot of those backhands. He just kept hitting to the middle of the court until he finally got the forehand and uncorked it.

skeezer Says:

Thought it was necessary. He hesitated for a sec on direction right before in an attempt to anticipate where he needed to be for the Volley and got in a not so good place to cut it off. So he was forced to hit between the legs. Don’t think it was planned…..but saweet result anyways.
Thought his BH’s needed more angle too Ben, but then again maybe he was playing it safe and chillin’ for a Cilic error.

Wog Boy Says:

I watched match last night, I think Cilic rather lost the match than Grigor won it. Even with the awful serving (47%) Cilic created 10 BP and converted none, and played awful TBs, Grigor created none BP and yet he won, it wasn’t really quolity match imo.

Ben Pronin Says:

Winning ugly. Something Dimitrov should’ve learned how to do a long time ago.

At least that explains the result, though. Because I would have expected Cilic to win. And especially if it required 2 tiebreakers. I’d like to see Dimitrov build on this… but I won’t be holding my breath.

Wog Boy Says:

Cilic was too erratic, never settled in the match, maybe Dimitrov sensed that and was waiting for Cilic mistakes instead of pulling the trigger, and plenty of mistakes came Grigor’s way, he looked and was over the moon after the match and shared his happiness with his very vocal Bulgarian fans in Paris.

that is so awesome
