Markus Says:

When your slam titles are studded with victories over names like Federer, Nadal and Murray, you must be among the greatest, perhaps the greatest of all.

SG1 Says:

Seriously, that is quite a list of players he has vanquished. Fed 3 times (twice on grass!). Rafa 3 times. Murray 5 times.

Definitely hasn’t had an easy road to 12 major titles. Not to mention all the times he’s beaten his peers leading up to the final. If Novak were to find a way to win the calendar slam, I’d consider him the best ever even with a major count below Roger’s. He is beating some great and all time great players to get those major numbers. So impressive.

I hope he wins the calendar slam and I’m not even a huge Novak fan. Would just be so cool to see a guy do something only ever done twice before (…and win 6 majors in row which has never been done).

With Roger hurting and Rafa out of the Wimbledon chase, he looks awfully good for getting a 4th Wimbledon title. Only Andy can stop him, I think.

SG1 Says:

Age 30 is coming. Time to pile up the majors while he still can.

RZ Says:

If Tsonga hadn’t gone on his inspired run at the 2008 Australian and taken out Andy and later Rafa, it’s very likely that Novak would have won all of his major finals against members of the Big 4.

Wog Boy Says:

SG1,

Very nice post, but after checking Wiki I think that Don Budge won his six GS in a row, I am just not sure if they were played in the same order as today’s one. If they were played in same order than Don Budge won six in a row, and curiosity is that they were only six he won anyway.

To Wog Boy and some other Djokovic rooters The French Open has some great vid up and because they resist linking it , you have to see 2 wonderful prematch and post match Djokovic videos on their webpage:

http://www.rolandgarros.com/en_FR/index.html

The 1st is entitled “Legends of Roland Garros – Djokovic on Agassi.” And Novak reading some very powerful words and internalizing them.

The second is “Inside The Men’s Final” and why I led with Wog Boy.
A showcase video showing Andy in a very appealing light as well as Novak, the struggle. Guga with tears of joy. And at the 7:25 point, after bro Marko congrats, a short muscular bullet neck and head guy comes in and Novak smiles tons and behaves like he is hugging his Mom after a long absence. You never see his face, so, WB, is that the Uncle Goran you mention so often as key to Djokovics success and happiness?

Wog Boy Says:

CF1,

No thats not him, I don’t know that man, Goran is taller and chunkier than Nole, he was sitting on the left side in his box and was the last one to hugg Nole, I’ll try to find any video with him and post, give me a sec please.

Wog Boy Says:

CF1,

Sorry, I mixed USO and FO, Goran was sitting on the left side when Nole won USO, I don’t know about FO this year. This is Goran Djokovic, so you can see his face, you won’t understand him:

jane Says:

thanks cf1. i had posted the “inside the final” video on the finals highlight thread. but i hadn’t seen the other one.

Michael Says:

Thanks to Tennis X for sharing this video of Novak’s roller coaster ride to success. Simply an extraordinary player with phenomenal perseverance, determination, mental strength, tenacity and endurance.

danica Says:

Chrisford1,

Maybe that man who Nole so affectionately hugs is Vajda? There’s no one else in his box that would resemble him. It is not his uncle.

ABerg Says:

That is Vajda.

Daniel Says:

So nice, the 3 Slams in 2015 and AO 2016 he was more composed after winning MP, only in this RG he dropped to the grounds. Seema tge more emotional vicories he let go more, like Wimby 2014 as well. Curiois to see next celebrations😉

SG1 Says:

WB,

You’re right. Budge did win 6 majors in a row. Unfortunately for him, it looks like WWII basically ended his career. Nonetheless, I’m hoping Novak matches the feat just because he’s win the calendar slam in the process. I was barely knee high to a grasshopper the last time that happened.

Roger’s been close but I’ve never really been his biggest fan. Rafa’s never really been that close. Would have been very cool to see him do it too.
