Favorites Zverev, Tsitsipas Winners In Beijing; Murray v Thiem Friday
All four singles matches in the ATP draw at Beijing went to the favorites on Thursday.
No. 2 seed Alexander Zverev played one of his best matches all year losing just two points on first serve to roll past Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 6-1.
The 22-year-old German, who’s seeking to improve his bid for a return to London to defend his title there, will now face American Sam Querrey who knocked out Diego Schwartzman in a tight affair 7-6(2), 6-7(7), 6-3.
Querrey’s countryman John Isner advanced with a win over Daniel Evans 7-6(3), 7-5. And he’ll now face Stefanos Tsitsipas who toppled defending champion Nikolaz Basilashvili 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Tomorrow, Andy Murray returns in his first post-hip surgery quarterfinal to face top seed Dominic Thiem. Murray leads the Austrian 2-1 but his last win came back in 2015 Miami.
Fabio Fognini faces off against Karen Khachanov in the other quarterfinal.
