Novak Djokovic opened his first Geneva campaign with a late-match surge beating Yannick Hanfmann 6-3, 6-3.

Djokovic, who was celebrating his 37th birthday Wednesday, was actually down 3-0 in the second with a point to go down 4-0. But Djokovic rebounded winning the last six games to claim his 1,100th career victory.

“The key was the birthday,” Djokovic joked. “The birthday probably wouldn’t be the same if I didn’t win the match, but it’s nice to be here for the first time at this tournament, with my family coming here to support as well. I grew up with my aunt, uncle and two cousins for most of my life. We don’t get the chance to see each other that much lately, so it’s really nice. I’m getting some really quality time on the court, but also off the court.”

Afterward, the tournament gave Djokovic an on-court birthday part. It was the first time the Serb has played a tour match on his birthday!

“That really touched me,” Djokovic said to the crowd. “I’m very happy to win on this special day.”

Tomorrow, he’ll await the winner of Denis Shapovalov and Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals.

Casper Ruud rallied from a set down past Sebastian Ofner 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 while Taylor Fritz fell in an all-American battle to Alex Michelson 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.

Whoa, Novak bounced out in his semi-final match in Geneva by Tomas Mahac?! What a year for the No. 1!?

skeezer Says:

He is only focused on Birthdays and Slams now. So…….expected.

Madmax Says:

Agreed Skeeze. Novak is focused on slams only – for sure.

Didn’t know where to post this, but have you seen this? It’s pretty cool, Skeeze.

At the unaired end of the video, the LV steamer trunk pops lid open, knocking the two Nike Gods back on their asses in 30,000 in Louis Vuitton duds each.
Like in the movie Pulp Fiction, an intense golden light spills from the open trunk. Slowly an Alpine Billy Goat with big horns rises. Then you see the goat is on the shoulders of Djokovic, rising…dressed in WalMart of Serbia attire with #1 and number 24 iron ons – given he is between sponsors again..
“Sorry guys, just wanted to say Hi! But I’m still busy playing tennis so I’ve got to go! Hope I didn’t upstage you.”

As Novak and his goat go off, Srdjan Djokovic, Novaks dad, ‘swooshes’ in on Head skis with all free Head attire thanks to his frugal son hand me downs.. “Roger its a shame you are retired because watching my son whip your hide was one of the great pleasures of my life.”
NO reaction as Roger is still on his back, only waving feet behind the trunk, still stick on the snow. Srdjan turns to Rafa:
“Get down to sea level, fast, Rafa! Snow is scary for you, not as scary as Novak, but scary. Roger is a cruddy skiier but you only belong on water skis and my son, if you ever play again will…..”
Novak comes on screen and drags his cantankerous Dad off.

Thanks MM, that was awesome. These two have a lot of proper respect for the game, and have represented it as GOATs should. Without them the game would not have advanced as it did. Historical. It is interesting they both were not nearly concerned about the accomplishments on the courts as they were about the impact they wanted to leave on the tour, the kids on being a model for the game of Tennis. And all that now is sorely missed.

Oh my goodness!! Thank you so much for the link! I had not seen this ad. So cool….. not because it was filmed in the snow….. lol….. but just because it was!! It’s amazing after all the times these two have played each other, that they can be friends. I really believe they are very good friends. They are so comfortable with each other. Great video. Thanks MM for sharing this!!

Regarding Rafa’s battle with Sasha today. He showed some brilliance at times. He had his chances. Broke him twice but could not back it up. Sasha was just too tough. He’s playing awesome tennis atm. One commentator said that there were several players that Rafa could have beaten today, as he was playing that good. Too bad for Rafa that Sasha was the one he had to face his first match……. bummer……..😩😩!! But it was a great match and good to see that Rafa showed no signs of injury woes. Good luck to Rafa regarding the summer Olympics. I hope he’s able to compete! VAMOS!!

Wog Boy Says:

Pretty dumb advertising, though it does make sense in one way, only the people like these two former GOATs (didn’t last long) can afford to buy LV, 99% of their fans can’t even dream of having one single LV item, unless they get it at Paddy’s market….made in China.

PS
His Excellency, Saudi Ambassador is getting ready for promotion SA and Sharia law (Saudis can afford LV) ….. fits perfectly with his agnostic (and human rights) views…..

Giles Says:

These Vic’s are a real shitty family. No class whatsoever. One would think they’d learn by now how to conduct themselves. You just can’t convert Trash! Pffffft.
