Tragedy struck Tuesday in 's-Hertogenbosch
as former Wimbledon champion Richard Krajicek
re-injured his elbow in a loss to Olivier Mutis
and was forced to withdraw from next week's Championships
at the All-England Club. "I miss a lot of
timing on my serve at the moment," said Krajicek,
who also saw his teenage cousin go out in the
first round on the women's side at the Dutch event
in her WTA debut. "I've had this problem
for 6-7 months. I missed some serves completely.
The problem is that I can't serve too much because
of my elbow. I can't be as professional as I want
to be, that's hurting me. My body doesn't allow
it, that's frustrating." French runner-up
Martin Verkerk sufferer a heinous grasscourt loss
in his career debut on the lawns, blowing three
match points in falling to Lars Burgmuller 7-6
in the third. In another potential Wimbledon withdrawal,
Nicolas Kiefer retired during his match with an
adductor strain in his right leg. Seeds advancing
Tuesday were (1)Novak (d. Melzer), (5)Grosjean
(d. (Q)Petzscher), and (7)Clement (d. (WC)Hemmes,
Jr.), while (8)Acasuso was upset by Dutchman John
van Lottum. Featured today on the Dutch lawns
are "Everybody Loves" Raemon Sluiter
vs. (2)Srichaphan, C.Rochus vs. (3)Schalken, and
(6)Robredo vs. Carlsen.
Unseeded Jonas Bjorkman began his title defense
in Nottingham by pasting No. 2 seed Mikhail
Youzhny 6-2, 6-0, and was joined among the upset-minded
by Greg Rusedski, who ousted No. 3 Jarkko Nieminen.
Two seeds advanced in (1)El Aynaoui (d. Waske)
and (7)Dent (d. Vahaly). Matches of interest today
in Nottingham are Rusedski vs. O.Rochus, (WC)Parmar
vs. Bjorkman, Voltchkov vs. (WC)Bogdanovic, Arazi
vs. (6)Mirnyi, (1)El Aynaoui vs. Arthurs, and
(8)Dent vs. (Q)Zimonjic.

The only thing exciting in 's-Hertogenbosch
Tuesday on the women's side was asking people
to try and pronounce the name of the city. The
two seeds in action advanced in (3)Mauresmo (d.
Bartoli in three) and (5)Petrova (d. Widjaja in
three), while the Clijsters vs. Black match was
postponed due to darkness -- bet the Tuesday ticketholders
dug that. Today's matches feature some A-list
clientele in Clijsters vs. Black, Sanchez Lorenzo
vs. Henin-Hardenne, Mauresmo vs. Rittner, Callens
vs. Dementieva, Petrova vs. Cohen-Aloro, Weingartner
vs. Cervanova, Barna vs. Tulyaganova, and Pisnik
vs. Srebotnik.
In Eastbourne, unseeded Amanda Coetzer
gave (5)Myskina a grasscourt lesson, while qualifier
Saori Obata continued Jelena Dokic's losing ways
with a 6-3, 6-1 upset. Seeds advancing were (7)Sugiyama
(d. (WC)Keothavong), and (8)Maleeva (d. Raymond
in three). Today's matches are Hantuchova vs.
Stevenson (Hantuchova leads head-to-head 5-2),
Tanasugarn vs. Rubin, Amy "Down Goes"
Frazier vs. Jennifer "Pudge" Capriati
(Jen leads 5-0), Davenport vs. Farina Elia (Lindsey
leads 5-0), Sugiyama vs. Dechy, Martinez vs. Coetzer,
Likhovtseva vs. Maleeva, and Obata vs. Pistolesi.
