Hewitt Bounced in First Round by Karlovic at Wimbledon, Agassi Up Today

Forget about the washed-up Goran Ivanisevic and Mario "Baby Goran" Ancic, the new Croatian on the block is 6'10" giant Ivo Karlovic, who sent No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt packing on Day One at Wimbledon. In this his first grand slam, Karlovic, "The Tower of London", is the tallest man to play at Wimbledon, and made Hewitt the second defending champion to exit at Wimbledon following Manuel Santana's loss in 1967. "I was a little bit lucky, but that's life," said Karlovic, stuttering from a speech impediment he suffers. "I really enjoyed playing this. I am excited...I believe I'm going to realize some other day that I won." The Croat entered Wimbledon with just four tour-level wins in three years on the circuit. A dull opening day on the women's side, with the tops seeds cruising to easy wins, and look forward to more of the same through Week One. Two lower seeds were ushered out on Monday, with Petra Mandula outrallying the troubled No. 20 seed Patty Schnyder, and Samantha Reeves beating No. 25 Anna "Not That Anna" Pistolesi in straight sets. The upper seeds served up five bagel sets on Day One, illustrating the gap on the women's side.
