ATP REVIEW/PREVIEW
The top seeds advanced Friday without any hiccups in (4)Federer (d. Fish), (5)Roddick (d. (25)Robredo), (8)Schalken (d. Hanuescu), (9)Schuettler (d. T.Martin in a trademark TM five-set marathon), and (12)Srichaphan (d. Nadal in straights). "It is a great feeling to be in the last 16 at Wimbledon for the first time," Schuettler said after wearing down Martin. "I always feel confident on grass and this just shows that I am playing better and better each year." Yeah, the Masters-Houston organizers are thrilled. Watch out for the Thai Srichaphan, who next plays Andy Roddick, and last year at Wimbledon ushered out Andre Agassi. P-Dorn has split two meetings with A-Rod. Unseeded winners were Bjorkman (d. Gimelstob easily), Mirnyi (d. Karlovic in battle of the big men), and Lopez (d. Saretta). In doubles, unseeded American comers Erlich/Ram beat (12)Cermak/Friedl.

Seeds in action on Saturday are (2)Agassi vs. (27)El Aynaoui, (10)Henman vs. (Q)Soderling, (6)Nalbandian vs. Kucera, (35)Stepanek vs. Philippoussis, (3)Ferrero vs. Sargsian, (30)Nieminen vs. O.Rochus, (11)Novak vs. Popp, and (13)Grosjean vs. (Q)Moodie. "He gives me a hard time every time," Agassi says of El Aynaoui. "He's a talented player. The guy's, you know, a great player to watch and tough player to play against. You know, I look forward to it. It's going to be a good opportunity to sort of feel his game on the grass, you know, see how it goes there. But we've always had good matches and entertaining ones."

I'm not one to watch men's tennis, but I get excited when I see him playing because he's exciting to watch. I think it all boils down to personalities."...ATP Player Council member Todd Martin is a company man when it comes to the Lleyton Hewitt incident: "It is disappointing that he (Hewitt) finds it necessary to sue the ATP because, essentially, he's suing his fellow players."...Bud Collins is picking Tim Henman to go all the way, a sign for you wagerers to lay your money on his opponent...Andre Agassi has praise for former coach Brad Gilbert's ability to not shut up: "Brad came in and taught me how to play the game. So that's sort of the good part of it."...James Blake missed the ATP player meeting last week: "I found out at the last minute. I'm being represented by Nike for the last six or seven years. This is what they choose for me to wear. I'm being loyal and a good client of theirs. I just do what I'm told. I like the feel of it. I guess since the Wimbledon committee has approved this outfit, it should be fine. I hope that more people like it."...Saturday is "People's Saturday" at Wimbledon…WEATHER: Should be a nice day at the Championships…STAT OF THE DAY: Andy Roddick has only serve-and-volleyed three times in three matches this week.
