Three low-end seeds were sent home from Wimbledon
Saturday in (11)Novak (l. to Popp), (30)Nieminen
(l. to O.Rochus in five sets), and (35)Stepanek
(l. to Philippoussis). Seeds advancing were (2)Agassi
(d. El Aynaoui in four, coming back from a set
down), (3)Ferrero (d. Sargsian to reach the fourth
round for the first time), (6)Nalbandian (d. Kucera,
came from 1-2 sets down), (10)Henman (d. (Q)Soderling
easily), and (13)Grosjean (d. Moodie, came back
from a set down). Agassi's match was much more
work than the four-set score indicated, considering
he broke El Aynaoui's serve only once, and faced
set points to go to a fifth. Agassi also won 27
out of 30 forays into the net. "Younes has
a soft slice," Agassi said of his net charges.
"His slice tends to float. But that sort
of works well for his game because when it floats,
it doesn't have much pace. Then it's hard for
you to generate pace and that gives him a chance
to move around it and use his big forehand. So
the one thing I wanted him to sort of feel is
that he can't get away with something really floating
up there."
There is no play today on the middle Sunday at
Wimbledon.
WTA REVIEW/PREVIEW
Four low-end seeds bit it at Wimbledon Saturday,
highlighted by 16-year-old jail bait Maria "Orgasmo"
Sharapova ousting (11)Dokic in a battle of who's
hotter. Other seeds dug up were former champion
(18)Martinez (l. to (10)Myskina), (23)Raymond
(l. to Pierce), and (28)Granville (l. to (1)Serena).
For the unseeded Pierce it is her fourth trip
to the round of 16, and she looks forward to using
her brain, er, mind...control powers on court.
"It's more difficult to go out there and
play matches not being in that level where I want
to be," Pierce said. "So all I really
do is just use my mind a lot more." Other
winners were (3)Henin-Hardenne (d. Molik), (8)Capriati
(d. Morigami), (15)Dementieva (d. Kapros), and
(33)Kuznetsova (d. Loit). In the doubles Saturday,
three seeds were shown the door in (6)Dokic/Petrova
(l. to Vento-Kabchi/Widjaja, Dokic must have needed
to catch a plane back to the race car driver boyfriend)
(9)Hantuchova/Rubin (l. to Bedanova/Voracova),
and (14)Krizan/Srebotnik (l. to Asagoe/Miyagi).

Davenport thought her car was stolen Saturday
at Wimbledon, but it was only towed...The grunt-eriffic
Maria Sharapova is not short on confidence:
"I enter every tournament to win it, that's
my philosophy. I can't go into a tournament thinking
'Yeah, I'm gonna get my ass kicked today, so I
might as well just leave'. But I am surprised,
I'm 16 and in the fourth round, how odd is that?"...Only
Pat Cash and Jimmy Connors have
won the Wimbledon singles title as fathers, and
only Evonne Goolagong as a mother in the Open
Era...Jelena Dokic ruled out playing Fed
Cup or the Olympics after getting pounded by Maria
Sharapova. Fans everywhere are crushed…The
